So I am having a hard time fully grasping this. The block-chain will still be in tact correct? Like all the old transactions will still be downloaded when a new node is created under this hard fork?
You ever see that video of the grandma in Germany doing the Heil-Hitler solute like she was a little girl again, and then her grandson pushes her hand down and chastises her.
The new soft for will just point to old transactions before X date and be like "Yeah... we don't do that anymore." or more precisely " We do this now and not that, unless x is before y.

that is quite the brain twister. Seems like all the BTC at that point would be moot.

Why ? New transactions will just have a large time field. If we are verifying old transactions, the software will just allow for the fact it was made beofre the soft fork.
Tons of changes like this have already happened without damaging BTC. Some features from new clients are incompatible with the old ones, but the BTC within is still good

Ah, I see. I guess forks just kind of confuse me lol
