Yesterday I was having a conversation with someone about money. The conversation progressed into investments and I was hesitant but I mentioned I was interested in Bitcoin.
Straight away the person just yelled “sell it! It’s a scam.” Which I replied “maybe but I just want to see where it goes and I’m aiming just to have one coin”. The conversation pretty much died after that but the experience makes me want to STFU about Bitcoin IRL.
Does anyone else experience this? Is it just better to stick to the internet for these kind of discussions? Perhaps I just feel lonely and don’t want people around me to be left struggling without the hardest money ever invented!
Learn it well enough to be passionate and excited when speaking about it, regardless of what someone else says

Oh I could go on and on about it. I just felt from this persons reaction I was wasting my time and energy.
It was like there was no processing of what I said. Just an instant knee jerk reaction almost as if it was someone else words and they were programmed to say it.

you got a lot of information about that person based on this interaction.

Next time ask them "What is the best money to save in & why?"
That might give you a chance to talk about the properties of sound money (scarce, immutable etc), then you can get into bitcoin at the end.

I can relate. I also used to be very hesitant about mentioning bitcoin because of some bad experiences. But as you said, it feels very lonely. Over time, I realized that the best solution is possibly to just be honestly interested in why people think what they think by asking questions.
For example, you could have asked why he thinks it's a scam.
That also helps you since you not only challenge bitcoin critics (and they may realize that they don't know much about it) but also yourself since you have to know your stuff to teach other people. Teaching other people is the best way to master something.

I did ask and they had an unintelligible response. Haha
