Bitcoin (or email) is already operating alongside banks (or the post office). If that's the purpose of Bitcoin, then Bitcoin would be a joke -- an expensive clown show.
No, the only reasonable measure of success for Bitcoin is the number of fiat currencies it manages to replace. When there are no more fiat currencies, then Bitcoin will have totally succeeded.
