In 1998, George W. Bush said that nation-building was unacceptable. Several years later, he was nation-building in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In 2007, Barack Obama promised that he would end the war in Iraq. Several years later, he had expanded the war in Iraq at a greater rate than Bush had, in terms of troops deployed and drone strikes.

It doesn't matter who gets elected. The State wins every time. Politicians are employees of the State, and they all figure that out sooner or later.
