Great conversation about College Football yesterday. I am going to try and follow it a bit more closely this year.
Way back in the early days of stacker sports (last month) we discussed the best sports venues we have ever been to. I want to go in the opposite direction today and discuss the biggest dumps you have ever watched a sporting event in. For me, it is a tie between Olympic Stadium in Montreal and the now called Highmark Stadium in Buffalo (sorry @BlokchainB- hopefully they renovated the bathrooms since I went 20 years ago).
Shill me the biggest dump you attended a game in and if that made the experience better or worse.
Sats for all.
Cheers, GR
Damn had to call me out about highmark! @grayruby The tailgating is where it’s at! Not the stadium bathroom!
reply
Unfortunately, I didn't do too much tailgating when I was there. It was December and it was freezing. I had two pairs of socks on and I still couldn't feel my feet by the end of the game. I won't do that again. Next time I go to a Bills game it will be in September or October.
I will say, I did go to a couple of the Bills series in Toronto games and the atmosphere was crap at those games compared to in Buffalo.
I have also been to a few Sabres games and a couple Bisons games. Bisons stadium (I think it's Coca Cola field) is really nice for a minor league park.
reply
There we go! Yeah the winter games there are tough but you definitely gotta tailgate to get the full experience. But buffalo is getting a new stadium to open in 2026 I believe
reply
Yeah, I was surprised the plans didn't have a roof but I guess Buff is tough. They don't mind sitting in 4ft of snow.

😂😂😂

Not football but….Arthur Ashe stadium. Both amazing to look at (it’s huge!) yet providing a completely soulless experience compared to other tennis venues. In the words of a good friend; ‘stuff my boots, if I knew we needed binoculars I would stayed and watched the games on television’

Unexpected response. Thanks for sharing.

Sorry I can’t offer much to the football discussions but love Stacker Sports!

My uncle took me to a Mets game when I was a kid. I'm not sure what stadium that would have been (and I'm obviously too lazy to look it up), but I remember thinking it was pretty gross. The crowded trough style shared urinal was especially off-putting.
reply
@siggy47 he is coming for Shea! haha
The trough urinals were the crux of my disdain for Ralph Wilson Stadium (now Highmark) in Buffalo. The troughs were too packed and dudes just started pissing in the sink.
I really hope they renovated those bathrooms.
reply
Same thing at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, in times of need the sinks were just treated like regular old urinal troughs
reply
That certainly fits my perceptions of Detroit.
reply
Lol, everything you’ve heard is true

I was thinking about buying property in Detroit after the Great Recession when the whole city turned into Thunderdome.
reply
That was a great time to do it, it was a total land-grab. It could still be, haven’t checked in a while, but there has been a lot of development the last 10 years or so
reply
One of the reasons we didn't was that the city was still appraising and taxing homes at their precrash values.
I saw a Red Wings game at Joe Louis Arena once. It was after I had abandoned Leafs fandom and decided I needed a team to support. Anyway, my Red Wings support was short lived but I did have a great time going down to a game. My buddy and I sat right beside the red wings bench, which turned out to be not the greatest view with guys getting on and off the bench all the time. We stayed at Ceasars Windsor for the night after the game. I won 700 bucks playing roulette so I bought tickets for my buddy and I to go UFC in Toronto the next night.
Joe Louis was a dump but was a lot of fun.
reply
Cheetah’s Windsor had a very nice all you can eat breakfast buffet if my memory is in tact
reply
Not sure. Did not partake. I am not a big breakfast guy. My breakfast is typically a banana, yogurt and a cup of coffee. Occasionally we will do a nice brunch at home with the kiddos and my wife will make french toast or pancakes or eggs and bacon maybe a fruit salad. I will usually partake on those occasions but normally breakfast is pretty straight forward for me.
I do recall going to the restaurant in Coca Cola field once before a Sabres game. My memory is foggy but I think it had a view of the field from the dining area and that's why my buddy and I decided to come back during baseball season to catch a game. I have been to two Bisons games. One when they were still affiliated with Mets and one after they became affiliated with the Blue Jays.
reply
For all I know, that was the nicest MLB stadium in the country at the time. My only point of reference is the Diamondbacks stadium many years later.
reply
I loved that dump, but it was a dump.
reply
You nailed it, @grayruby. I saw an Expos game at Olympic Stadium maybe late 1980's. It didn't help that the crowd was tiny. There was so much cement in the place that the acoustics were weird, too. Everything looked run down. I'm sorry I never saw a game at Jarry Park. I understand that was a weird experience.
reply
Yes, I have heard many stories of Jarry Park from my Dad. My parents lived in Montreal before I was born. I believe Jarry Park is where they host the Montreal version of the National bank open tennis tournament now. The way that tournament works is they do half in Toronto and the other half in Montreal and it runs concurrently. So Toronto this year hosted the men's tournament and Montreal hosted the women's and then next year they will switch.
I haven't been to Montreal since 2010. I should take the wife and kids next summer. They have never been.

The Oakland coliseum takes the cake. Rats on the concourse and poop water coming out the dugout drains. Not to mention being located in an unsafe part of town.
