I feel like this behavior is worse on nostr than here, but I agree it's annoying.
Even if you're cynically spamming content to get zaps, it'll be better in the long-term to make people want to engage with you.
The default to global feed is one of several reasons I'm not in Nostr yet. If I want to see posts from strangers Twitter and stacker news already exist. I want to see posts from my friends and collaborators!

Mine defaults to "following". I haven't looked at the global feed in weeks.

I don't really want to touch a client that even has a global feed yet. Unless the only relay connected is my personal relay, why would I want to consume everything there?

I haven't messed around with the settings, but I'm pretty sure Iris allows you to control how extensive your global feed is, in terms of relay connection distance.

Does Iris have default relays?

I'm not sure. When I started using it, I had no understanding of the technology and honestly I still understand it way less than most people who use it. There were definitely a bunch of relay options that I didn't look into when I got started.
