Are they specifically targeting Bitcoin or are they restricting everything that doesn't go through the app store?
Either way, fuck Apple
Everything by the sound of it. If we want to be cynical, it seems like they are slowly boiling the frog until the desktop OS is as locked down as iOS. If they keep going they will kill the Mac's Silicon Valley demo. Most SV tech folk I know use Macs.

FWIW the M-series SoC architecture was very well designed to allow running other OSes (like Asahi Linux) so if anything they're shooting themselves in the foot by making MacOS less usable

I wasn't aware! I haven't recently attempted an alternative OS boot.
That'll probably be what I do if this slope ends up any slipperier. Their hardware is just so good imho.

I strongly recommend trying Linux out on a second computer (e.g. a used Apple laptop) before trying it on your main Apple computer. That way, you can comfortably hammer out any hardware/driver issues and experiment with Linux -- while still being able to do work with your main computer.

As long as the bootloader does not break, which is highly likely, you can have both OSs on your main computer and progressively boot into Linux as you feel more comfortable.
If you're running on M1/M2 I believe the only option atm is Asahi who are developing all drivers for these specific models, so you won't be hammering out driver issues, instead you will be waiting for support: https://github.com/AsahiLinux/docs/wiki/Feature-Support

Same here. MacBooks are very common in this industry.
