Just curious about your thoughts about this idea.

I'd go to an nPub

This is the only online community where I'd actually be interested in meeting people irl.

reply

It would be great if we could do some kind of meet up where we don't disclose our real SN names, and just say, "Hey, I'm Tom", or "Hi, I'm James", or whatever.

reply

I'm guessing at least one person will be easy to identify when he shows up in a full Darth Vader suit.

reply

But will it be the real Darth? (if that's what you meant)

Maybe we should all show up in Darth Vader suits

reply

I can see DarthCoin pulling an MF DOOM and sending some random guy in a Darth Vader outfit, lol.

reply

That's certainly a great way to protect our identities.

reply

No can do, my SN name is my name.

reply

Yeah, but you can always use another name IRL

reply

Usernames it is, to keep with the theme!

reply

I won't go to Australia or North Korea. Anywhere else.

reply

Very specific, what about NZ?

reply

Good point. i'm adding New Zealand to the list.

reply

Vanuatu?

They're planning "Satoshi Island" over there...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lataro

The island has been leased by Anthony Welch since 2007 under a 75-year lease.

In 2022, Welch announced that he had unofficially renamed the island Satoshi in honor of Satoshi Nakamoto, the inventor of bitcoin and that the island would be turned into a home of bitcoin investors.

Note: This is just a joke, this is probably a scam.

reply

Not anywhere, travel can be expensive and inconvenient. But some places, yes.

reply

I mean, everyone is from somewhere, and far is very particular to each individual.

reply

Let's meet at the moon

Should be roughly equally as far for everyone, haha

There are tons of bitcoin meetups all over the place. Honestly not sure what would make an SN meetup any different. Find your local meetup and invite some people from SN! If one doesn't exist, start one

Sure why not. Better than drinking alone eh?

Sounds like a cool way to meet new people with common interests

reply

Only in Scotland for listening nice Irish music and drinking a Guinness black beer :)

reply

Just not UK / US / Canada / Australia, as it's a pain to factory reset devices when crossing those borders

(all these countries have right of full access to your phones / laptops etc when entering)

reply

Is this related to the Five Eyes?

reply

could be related to policy standardisation, but the powers are quite new, enacted in the last couple of years.

to little fanfare, of course.

they are already being used to harrass journalists

see: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/apr/18/french-publisher-arrested-london-counter-terrorism-police-ernest-moret

arrested for not giving up the passwords to his devices

this can happen to anyone who crosses the aforementioned borders

all you can do is to use empty "travel" devices, or perform full reset and restore after you get through the border

reply

I'd go to a meet up in my area to meet like minded individuals.

Ideally, Nottingham, U.K. 👍

reply

Yup I would but I fear the turnout would be about 5 to 8 people

reply

I'll organize a meetup in my city soon and I will onboard the pub where we do it so they get a BTC PoS. We could start some kind of worldwide network of pubs where you know you can pay with LN and meet other coiners.
I like the pubkey brand.

Where would be a neutral ground for a global community though?
