I have been thinking of ways to raise sats to donate to worthy bitcoin projects for a while. Some of you may have noticed that I sometimes re-post Anita Posch’s newsletter on SN and forward the sats to her. I believe in her work.

@grayruby approached me about doing a fundraiser here on Stacker News, so we have decided to give it a try. We’re still a little up in the air about the best way to do this, but I will be posting the fundraiser tomorrow, Wednesday, August 30. @anita’s Bitcoin For Fairness will be our first fundraiser

We need your help and support.

The first thing we need is input as to what the hell to call this thing.

So far, the possibilities are:

Satsraiser

Sats-A-Thon

Zapathon

We need input from the community. Please reply with suggestions.

I will post the fundraiser tomorrow morning around 8 a.m. EST

Thanks

Siggy

the ****thon give the idea of a hackathon.. not a fundraising campaign

what about:

  • SatsR (minified version of SatsRiser)
  • StackBit (?)
  • STKRize (!)
  • BitRaiser - and see if we can rise a whole bit ( =1 000 000 sats = 1 micro-bitcoin = μBTC) for each campaign!

Satsraiser is my preferred from your list

reply

Good point about ...thon I really like Bitraiser.

I'm torn, so if people start picking their favorite I'll just add them up at the end.

reply

BitRiser is my favourite too :) SN has on avrg 2000 active users per day, so if each one of us give 500 sats we should be able to rise 1 bit/campaign every day (hypothetical dream)

reply

Stacker cares Stacker fund Sats for change

reply

I really like Sats For Change.

reply

Every-Sat-Counts Benevo-lightning

I like satraiser

reply

i like that too. Just to be clear, satraiser as opposed to satsraiser?

reply

I think so… a ‘satraiser’ seems a little less clunky than a ‘satsraiser.

Might be more readable as SatRaiser / SatsRaiser

I'd go for Zapathon 'cuz it's something already used on NOSTR and the community already know the meaning.

reply

How about "Zapping for a Cause", if you want to keep Zap in the name because it will get confusing with zapathon (which is great but they already have zapathon on nostr and it's a totally different thing).

Otherwise I say stick with Satsraiser.

Load up your SN wallets guys. Let's dig deep tomorrow.

Any idea what time you want to launch tomorrow Siggy?

reply

I'll try to take a consensus choice, if that's possible. I put in the post 8 a.m.EST tomorrow. Happy Birthday to your daughter!

reply

Ok 8am it is. We will zap it to the top of the home page by 8:05.

Thanks. Should be a fun day. I might get the little one to jump on SN to say hi. I haven't had her post in awhile now.

Yes.

Is she doing an AMA or something? Where do I send sats?

Cool. I will zap tomorrow when the thread goes up.

reply

First, I agree with this initiative, and thanks to Anita I have had a clearer vision on Bitcoin-related issues.

As a suggestion for the name, I'll stick with SATSRAISER.

And tomorrow we will be supporting this magnificent project.

I pledge 5,000 sats 😁

reply

Great! You can zap the post tomorrow morning. I will post it at 8:00 am EST. Thanks!

reply

Great to see Anita getting much do respect. What a treasure. The zaps forwarded to blank feature coming into its own now.

reply

I vote for Satsraiser or Zapathon. Zapathon rolls off the tongue nicely. You could consider Stackathon, although that might imply the sats raised will be hodled rather than spent/used

reply

I liked Stackathon too but Zapathon just hits different.

satisfaction

reply

I like that. Doesn’t feel right for this endeavour but maybe something else…

reply

Send a little Zappiness

reply

Stacker News should maybe have: "Stack Raiser(s)"? Otherwise, "Sats Raiser" is pretty good too. Zapathon is something different already.

reply

Zapathon is certainly catchy, but has also already taken on a distinct meaning as a twice-weekly nostr event.

Good on you guys for doing this.

reply

I like it! Giving sats for a good cause is carying.

reply

These comments and sat related puns are so satisfying 😉

you can redirect sats for a post

I wish it were possible to redirect sats for a profile
