i see ... even without using reply on another page?
or maybe it's really if two people use reply on another page at the same time?

nah, you didn't. another data point
to which comment did you want to reply?
i think i'll just do some static code analysis now, lol

So it comes up at the bottom of the thread ‘reply on another page’… so I click that and enter this comment.

I just tried the same but it worked for me

Thank you (but not commenting)

Very interesting bug indeed ... will reproduce today and fix. Maybe we can get a "emergency release" out this week

lol, I think I got a slight taste of the @k00b experience
I just looked at my phone and there are too many notifications
I might need to restart it to clear all of them, lol :)

this is getting out of hand, lol
we already have 67% of the comments from yesterday
and it's only been 31 minutes, lol
if we keep this pace, there will be 3456 comments until the next daily discussion
reply
Really? Though it might be more. And I don’t even comment that much.

let's blame @orthwyrm because of this comment, lol
edit: or maybe bot blame @orthwyrm
depending on the amount of top level cowboy comments, the snail has to check a lot of comments to find the fastest cowboy, lol
edit 2: ah no, it can just sort by recent, lol
reply
Can we stop the editing. Making me look like even more of a muppet!
reply
sorry, had to edit my comment again because there was a typo :)
reply
That was more than a typo edit…. Lol
reply
i mean after you replied i edited my comment again
i only changed "mahbe" to "maybe", I swear :)

I don’t think that’s the issue - because no one would comment past the first post would they? It’s just fun to spend time with similarly minded people
reply
i don't understand what you mean, my mind is already spinning, lol
reply
Did I say similarly? I must have meant simple minded…
…(just joking)

@carlosfandango replied on a new page….
This is where all the trouble started as I recall….
reply
Hang on a minute. The link I clicked that came up in my notifications had brought me here (the new page).
I feel like Dr Who walked into a festival toilet thinking it was his tardis and it’s brought him back to where he went in.
reply
wait, so you can consistently reproduce it since it happens every time do you? lol
reply
So i think there are two issues here; not placing comments in the right section of the posts and it’s producing new pages when comments are ‘full’ (usually around 10 replies in)

And when I look back at the main thread it shows your comment (not mine) and says; ‘reply on another page’
reply
not sure I understand. To which comment did you try to reply?
And what do you mean with
it shows your comment (not mine)

Thanks for the detailed description! So it basically worked for me but not for you for some reason.
Are you running this through a mobile device or computer based with a mobile emulator? As this could be a mobile issue rather than computer.
Good point, but it happened to me using a computer. The backend also shouldn't care what device you're using. Since this seems to be a backend bug.
edit (sorry, lol): maybe it's because we both were trying to reply to the same comment using reply on another page
And I commented first and you commented after me
Can't confirm now since I'm on my way to somewhere but maybe that's indeed how to reproduce it :)
I'll send you some extra sats in that case

You are welcome. One team - one dream.
That's the spirit! But I would write it the other way around, lol: One dream - one team :)
I was only wondering as the replies to posts get very compressed to the right hand side of my screen around 9/10 comments in. I only use SN on a mobile.
Yeah, noticed the same. You'd have to click on the timestamp of a comment to make it the root to fix that.
Not sure if there's a better way

why can you and @carlosfandango consistently trigger the bug but not me? lol

4 if those are all the same 2 eggs
6 if we take the present tense seriously

You're first answer is correct. You have 4 eggs left after you ate the 2 eggs.

I also noticed the amount of comments in the thread need to be even for a reverse thread.
So it must be like this:
A > B > A > B
not A > B > A > B > A
And this thread is already broken, since I replied twice to a comment of yours, lol
edit: wait ... I am dumb.
A > B > A > B > A
would work but not
A > B > A > B
since you can mirror the above but not the bottom one. Or B has to write what A has written
