I did indeed upgrade it last night. UX is not up to snuff yet though.

You’re right it’s dependent on your trust level. It’s exactly an upzap in reverse.
Outlawing threshold is kind of arbitrary, but it’s ~5 downzaps from average trusted stackers. It’s like ~2 downzaps from very high trust stackers.
Beyond outlawing, it’s worth downzapping because it severs (meaningfully reduces) trust between you and whoever upzapped it … meaning overtime we’ll all see less of that kind of content on the front page.
At some point I’d like to reward downzappers too. Kind of like rewarding zapping top posts but the reverse - rewards for helping to find the worst stuff.

Not sure I understand how downvotes work (I suspect that’s my intellectual fault though) but I am happy to downvote plagiarised and AI nonsense rather than flag.

Yep - as I just discovered downvoting something. It was Darth who said I should flag rather than call out and happy to do so. AI, blatant plagiarism and scams all need a good kicking.
If I am wrong about a post I guess other Stackers won’t downvote and I will put on my orthotic shoes and stand corrected!

But why would I pay sats for bad content though?

Yeah, but if there's a lot of spam why would I have to pay a lot just to remove spam, doesn't seem like a workable solution.
It makes sense to have this as a common good tax, basically using the revenue obtained through normal posts, etc.
