Yes, generally they are family-run businesses, and not just restaurants, I found family businesses / old shops are normally a better experience than the new ones. ( some new ones are still good, but just a tiny few of them..; also it must also meant something why these old shops "survived" till now )
But how funny that people used to do what they enjoy then slowly get bigger and became a business, yet in modern days, many businesses are chasing whatever makes more money, founded by blah blah blah MBAs, raised VC funds, with beautiful ( makeup ) data, and most likely short-lived.
