He doesn't want people to replace "having childs" by just having dogs(pets). Nothing wrong with that take tho.
I'd like a dog personally, but it's a time and money sink I'd rather not indulge in until I've cleared other goals (such as having kids). So on that point I'd agree.
I'm not convinced many people are using dogs as a child-substitute. I rank dogs similarly to other extravagences such as fancy cars and eating out. But perhaps there's something deeper there.
