Nostr has so many benefits, which are only limited by our imagination. Some of these are:
  1. Messaging
Nostr uses public-key cryptography, ensuring that only the intended recipient can read the sent message. This approach eliminates the risk of third-party surveillance common in many centralized messaging platforms.
  1. Social media
Traditional social media platforms control your data, deciding what you see, who sees your content, and whether your account stays active. Nostr, however, empowers users by giving them control over their data and ensuring freedom of speech.
  1. Identification and login
Instead of relying on central authorities like Google or Facebook to authenticate users, Nostr uses cryptographic keys.
  1. Alert systems
Unlike traditional systems, which can go down if a single server fails, Nostr-based alert systems can keep running as long as nodes are active in the network.
  1. Decentralized marketplaces
In these marketplaces, buyers and sellers can interact directly without intermediaries, reducing costs and enhancing privacy. Given Nostr’s censorship resistance, such a marketplace would be accessible anywhere, fostering a truly global trade environment. Source: voltage.cloud

The biggest challenge for using nostr is wanting to. Nostr has huge turnover of users. Apps trying to do too much and not doing any of them very well.

The biggest challenge for using nostr is wanting to.
The user experience needs to become much more reliable and enjoyable for people who aren't specifically interested in nostr.
Right now, I only use nostr because I think it has promise and I want to add to the network effects it's going to need to really take off.

eh. I think there need to be better use cases and then people will use nostr because it helps them, not because they know one day it could maybe be a really good thing

In my experience so far on 5 different client, different devices and different internet access: Performance, reliability in displaying current and older content and relay management. In my eyes, these will be the 3 biggest challanges.
