I'm the developer of LibreTube (It's an alternative youtube front end) and I was thinking about adding the feature to tip the creators with lightning because now you don't watch ads so they won't get any money! what do you think guys should I implement it or is it just waste of time?
I think it would be awesome

Thanks!

I'm familiar with NewPipe ..., didn't know of LibreTube before. You are on F-Droid, so I'll give it a try!
What is SponsorBlock?
As far as tipping creators, if the creator adds a Lightining address in the description of their Youtube video, Alby (browser extension) supports tipping to that, given it has the prefix of "⚡️" (e.g., ⚡️earnbitcoin@stacker.news ). The prefix differentiates between that being an e-mail address and that being a Lightning address. But only Alby follows this convention.
So you could do the same, ... pluck the LN address from the video description and accommodate tipping to that. Or, Alby doesn't do this but you might ... if there's no Lightning address in the video description maybe there is one in the creator's Youtube About page, and if so grab it from there, instead.
There's only a tiny fraction of the creators who have added a Lightning Address to their video descriptions (nonetheless to their Youtube About page),
The other problem is, ... it's hard to convince people to send a tip. Especially if every video has an LN address to tip. If you aren't familiar with Value for Value, maybe read up a little and listen to some podcasts describing Value 4 Value. That will help you better present this to the users ... explaining how, if they received value from the video, sending value in exchange results in more and better content in the future. (and, conversely, if the video did not provide value to them, not sending any value is totally fine).

I think I do this but there is this problem that the server owners may try to change the descriptions to get some sats!

The lightning community is small all things considered so i dont think many people will be tipping with lightning right away. But what if your website somehow gave sats to creators or viewers? Maybe people who didnt have ad blockes would recieve some sats or at the end of each ad there could be a way to claim some sats. It could grow this way and eventually ads wont even be needed because enough sats will be circulating on the website
reply
Why not make it possible to stream sats to them? Like the podcasting 2.0 apps do? Would be awesome.
reply
How exactly do u mean?
reply
the value block of podcasting 2.0 allows you to stream sats or send sats a la carte during the experience.
reply
Or allow users to pay for an account and don't show ads to paid accounts.
reply
We already don’t show ads
reply
how do you get revenue?
reply
By donations
reply
You could add features for paid accounts. Like emoticons, avatar, charge for comments.
Don't know the state of your project but users need to acknowledge that free stuff doesn't exist.
reply
Hmm Good idea but we are open sourced so they could just fork us and use the features for free then i guess
reply
Just like they could fork Bitcoin?, And if they fork the project how they are gonna get revenue?, Ads?, Track users?.
I hate ads and have no problem paying to get ride of them, as long isn't too expensive.
You could experiment a little with paid features and see how users respond. Start with emoticons maybe?, Add just a few and add more for paid accounts.

I think you should!
Streaming says on podcasts is already a thing, but I have the feeling that video will be WAY more successful doing this, as people are more engaged with video than audio.
When you're just listening, the device is usually not at hand for to just click or tap a button to send sats.
Video on the other hand, the device has to be in front of you, so it's extremely easy to feel the urge to just click that button and send some, much like when reading something on SN.
reply
Yes you are right this will be so good to be done
reply
You should! And it sounds exciting! But also note that initially you will only get Bitcoin folks using it, so pick your battles properly ;)
reply
hmm it's ok to me

sounds very cool I like the no ads part especially if i can just stream with lightning or pay with lightning for content and have access to videos would be cool too either way sounds dope n look forward to checking it out its the future mannnnnn!
reply
Of course, you should. Lightning.video also does it I have a channel there https://lightning.video/bitcoinmemes I'll upload to your site too definitely
Oh...I saw it, I thought it was a new site, it's an overlay, but it's still, just YouTube, it's the motherlode of all censorship man, it's not free just cause the overlay has sats. It needs to be censorship proof. I'm adopting Stacker, and Zapread and Odysee because I want to stop using Google, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter.
