EI understand where this sentiment is coming from, but am more relaxed about it. Some altcoins may be more suitable for certain uses cases Bitcoin wasn't made for.
Bitcoin was made to store value like nothing else, but e.g. Monero is private, which makes it suitable for payments on the dark web and the like, at least for the time being, before Bitcoin gains a privacy layer.
Monero may go to zero, but it's not going to happen in 5 minutes, which is how long I need to hold it for when I swap BTC -> XMR and XMR -> the government-unapproved good or service of my choice.
I wouldn't hold it, and it wasn't made to be held.
Add a privacy layer to Bitcoin and the world will switch.
Complaining that people use shitcoins to buy illegal items is a bit like complaining people drive shitcoins (cars) or live in shitcoins (houses) instead of Bitcoin.
If one day I can drive or live in Bitcoin, I may switch :) But until then, I'm going to drive a car and live in a house, and not worry that they're shitcoins because they're not Bitcoin.
Yeah XMR is basically a Bitcoin Layer 2 :)

Cons:
  • it has its own token, but that's not an issue if you only hold it for a few minutes
Pros:
  • atomic swaps between BTC <-> XMR
  • more decentralized than Liquid, Cashu and Fedimint, at least as it stands

Monero isn't a token, but I get what you're saying
Honestly though you can hold it much much longer than 5 minutes. Just depends. Sometimes you'll make a small gain or small loss but it ends up a wash usually. There are months where Monero will have more gains than Bitcoin. In fact, Monero made about +200% gain over Bitcoin the whole year of 2022. Check for yourself if you don't believe me.
It's only on a scale of years or longer where it really matters.

What did I say that was wrong? That you can hold Monero for more than 5 minutes without being a neurotic terrified pansy about it? Sorry that facts get you so darn upset

Coinjoins and LN are privacy garbage compared to Monero. Even LN devs are telling you this but you're still in denial.

Here, take these 51 sats. Now tell me where they came from. Show me an address or an on-chain tx or whatever LN info you have about them. I will wait.
If you can't, then your point is invalid.
No, the market doesn't agree with you.
Where privacy matters most, namely on Dark Web marketplaces, Monero is accepted everywhere and BTC is being withdrawn and actively discouraged.
Price charts are inconsequential here, because we're talking about payments, not hodling.

Dark Web marketplaces
