pull down to refresh

A bit of a quiet night for sports last night with the NBA off for the election. Going to be honest, I had no idea you guys were having an election yesterday and I am still not sure what it was for. There were a handful of NHL games and a college football game I could have watched but I took the night off from sports and played with the kids. My daughter wanted to build a block tower ("to the sky" was her plan but we only made it about 3ft) and recently my father in law taught my son to play Texas hold 'em so he wanted to challenge me (he played well but the kid has no poker face at all).
Playing cards with my son reminded me of being his age and playing cards with my parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles, cousins when we would all get together. We used to play a few different games but my grandparents loved to play Rummy.
Shill me your go to card game, board game, or trivia game for wholesome family time.
Sats for all.
Cheers, GR
You ever play shithead? Some adapt the rules to make it easier but effectively every card in the deck has some special rule surrounding it. But the usual ones are 2 can be played on anything and resets the deck, 10 discards the pile, Ace is always high, 4 of a kind also deletes the pack and you can play multiples of the same number at the same time, 7 means the next player must play lower than a 7, aside from 2&10 all cards must be played in numeric order eg, you can't play 4 6s on top of an 8 to delete the pack, you have to beat the card previously. The aim is to get rid of all your cards, if you can't play you pick up the deck. Google may help with a list of common special rules for cards and perhaps a YouTube video. But it's a really fun game.
3 cards are dealt face down and are blind cards and must be played blind. Each player is then dealt 6 cards. 3 must be placed face up on top of the face downs. You must have played all your face ups before you can play your blinds. You play from your hand of a minimum of 3. Until all the cards from the undealt deck are in circulation. (Play a card pick one up, until there's none left). Once all cards are in circulation, it's just a race to get rid of all your cards to win.

Sounds vaguely familiar.

Here's the In-Season Tournament Survivor Pool post.

Are you ready for another beat down of a "top" team by the Raptors tonight?
reply
This one won't surprise me. Is Kyrie even allowed to enter the fascist hellscape that is Canada?
reply
Fortunately the game is in Dallas tonight but you don't need to be vaxxed to enter Canada anymore. You just need to pledge your undying love to Trudeau and download a stupid surveillance app. Although I am sure folks on private flights don't need to follow those rules.
A good buddy of mine works at the private terminal at the airport. He has some pretty good stories. I forget which player it was for but some years ago he had to drive a brand new porsche onto the tarmac so the guy could have it right when he got off the plane. He also used to have to warm up the Leafs players cars for them. Was one of the services the team requested.

I hadn't checked the schedule until just now. It should be a good evening of basketball. Warriors/Nuggets and Celtics/76ers should give a good sense of how big the gap is between the top tier and the other contenders. I'll probably be switching back and forth between the Heat and Lakers, though.

76ers have been playing really well. Let's see how they matchup against the Celtics. The Grizzlies shouldn't be this bad even without Morant so maybe they will turn it around and give Miami a game. Warriors/Nuggets should be a great game. I will have to watch some of that one. Looks like I have the Raptors game, the Knicks v.s Spurs and Warriors v.s Nuggets as options to watch tonight.
Hopefully everyone that participated last week will remember to make their picks this week. If we aren't getting a good response I will tag them all in my post tomorrow. I don't want my inevitable win to be on a technicality because a bunch of people forgot to make a pick.

I was planning on starting to tag them all tomorrow and Friday, as well.
We also have a complication where @BlokchainB is trying to join late. Since we're double elimination, there should be a fair way to do that. I'm thinking joining with one strike and automatically losing if it comes down to a tie-breaker would be pretty fair.

I think that works.
