I have an affinity towards music without lyrics. Most of the time I listen to minimalistic techno but occasionally I listen to ambient, classical, or early 2000s rock. My taste doesn’t overlap with my friends whatsoever. I’m curious what the folks on SN listen to: artists, genres, favorite albums.

I mostly listen to classical and big band jazz, sometimes bossa nova as well. But lately, I've been watching/listening to a lot of Harry Mack freestyle rap. That guy is insanely good.
I forgot to mention I listen to some rap occasionally in the gym. I’ll have a listen to Harry Mack
The impressive thing about him is that he freestyles off the top, on the spot. Nothing is written or planned, and everything improvised. You might appreciate his talent a bit more if you watch his youtube videos.
Grateful Dead and Biggie
Any and all good music. Obviously this is highly subjective, but if I think it is good I will listen regardless of genre.
Bossa Nova. Musicals. I just listened to the soundtrack of the movie The Chorus - beautiful. The movie is great too.

Mostly anything but lots of americana and blues/soul stuff recently.
Straight Edge Hardcore from the 90's
Strife, Snapcase, Earth Crisis, Focused, Unashamed, Billingsgate, Mouthpiece, Shelter, Six Feet Deep, Brother's Keeper, etc...
Depends on what I'm doing. If I'm working, I prefer Ambient/New Age music, stuff without words that makes it easier to concentrate. Otherwise, I like listening to classical at night when I'm winding down for the night and rock/metal during the day.
Overall I prefer music with interesting rhythms and melodies, different time signatures, etc. stuff that's musically interesting rather than cookie-cutter stuff that gets plastered all over the radiowaves these days.
I agree. The music on the radio is not very conducive to focus or musically interesting. The style of techno I like makes frequent use of polyrhythms and there’s something about those patterns that helps me work.
Yeah I've noticed for whatever reason interesting polyrhythms almost create a "white noise" effect that makes it easier for me to focus. Not sure if that's the case for everyone, but I'm happy I've found something that works for me, and sounds like for you too! Cheers.
