Ask SN: How’s the stagnation this Thanksgiving?

Thanksgiving only applies to us yankees. But, any one can comment on the stagflation/inflation they see. We went to Walmart yesterday and we’re surprised how NOT busy it was. The day before thanksgiving. We have known things have gotten way more expensive, but in our area everything seems just as busy. This was new!

How are things in your areas?

We were out shopping yesterday and the day before. It was plenty busy, especially for the time of day.

I was out shopping a few days ahead of Thanksgiving - not that busy. But in terms of Black Friday itself, I haven't been inside a store in years now.

Okay, we did, for kicks, go out on Black Friday, just to see what was up.

Wow. We went to a local mall, and had to drive around the parking lot quite a while, trying to find parking. Finally did, wandered around what is normally a very quiet mall, it was insanely packed. Lines at the register were very long, we didn't buy anything. There were the regular goods, which seemed to my eyes (accustomed to thrift store prices) to be insanely high. And then there were loss-leader bins of bulk packaged goods (in one particular store, winter gloves, backpacks, garden tools) that seemed pretty inexpensive.

The mall junk food stands had long lines.

So, at least in my neck of the woods, things were VERY busy on Black Friday. It's hard to say how much people were actually buying - who knows, they could have been lookie-loos like us.

Agree! There's a thrift store in my neck of the woods that has a monthly $6 bag day sale for clothing. I now actually buy things that don't fit, but that I can alter. And for practically free - why not? Learning skills, being creative, lots of fun.

What kind of repairs are you doing? I've tried, fairly unsuccessfully, to sew up some boots where the seams were coming apart. Really hard to get to the toe area, where the problem was.

I haven't noticed anything abnormal. On my walk into the office today Austin was pretty dead but I can't really say what that means.

Holidays do tend to make folks to reflect on their finances for the year so it'll be interesting see what sentiment is like after the holidays.

I have absolutely no clue what folks are doing nowadays. Went to see family (so boring cause all I want to do is talk about Bitcoin and show all the new things I've learned like yesterday..) ; honestly, all I'm ULTRA focused on is stacking these sats.

I'm super surprised on how people are still asleep and cling to these cultural shaman ceremonies every year. Next on the people's list is Christmas... 🥱 Not bullish enough. Couldn't be me.

I'm just a weird bitcoiner with extreme low time preference preaching for people to practice creating circular economies wherever they are. Looks like folks are easily discouraged and doing old things is more "fun". What about a Bitcoin Thanksgiving where people are super thankful for the sats they've accumulated, or the knowledge they gained about themselves, the changes made all year, the friends they've made at conferences or online, no. Too far fetched.

Let's have this conversation again in the future. Wake me up in 2027.

It should also be considered that some people might buy online now instead of going to the physical stores, so that could be the reason for the stores being less busy.
