I'm like @siggy47. I believe most of them.
One Theory I Believe
The earth is [probably] flat. A lot of what I've seen leads to me believe that it's likely flat, but if it isn't, the current model is definitely not what we're told it is. When I finally saw [what I perceive to be] the truth, it finished off the breaking of my worldview and my belief of the afterlife.
People often ask, why would they hide it? Because if the world is flat, the plane is either infinite or it's finite, meaning it must have been created. Realizing you've been put here for a reason, instead of by random chance, drastically changes how you view the world. It did me.
By the way, this is not a topic I will debate about. I used to make fun of people for most conspiracies, including this one, but I've seen so much now that I know the current model is broken. It's basically the mother of all conspiracies.
One Theory I Do Not Believe
The whole "birds aren't real" thing. I've shot enough in the past that, sooner or later, I would have had to come across a robot or whatever they say birds are.
this territory is moderated
Yeah, flat earth is BS. Its so absurd I didn't even think to mention it in my OG post. Glad someone did though.

I think it's time for you and @siggy47 to go sailing and test this infinite flat earth idea out. I think you'll change your mind in much the same way you did regarding birds. eventually you'll accept that the earth isn't infinite, and also that it's not on a flat plane

You think I'm nuts? What if I fall off?
reply
I'll hold your hand, don't worry :)

Wow, I never met a flat earther out in the wild before.
My conspiracy theory was that you guys didn't really exist and that Flat Earth was promoted to discredit other, more plausible, conspiracy theories.
Anyhow, nice to meet you and please take your meds.

Promoted to discredit, but people still latch on. Both can be true
reply
I try to differentiate between straight up believing theories or just saying that they are plausible.
reply
Yeah, same here. Most of theories have some kernel of truth or at least plausibility but also people take them to extremes and often there are huge logic holes.

Chem trails is one example. Yeah, the CIA in the past did experiment with spraying chemicals over cities. I forget the name of the program and which city it was. But, the common theory is that all the con-trails you see from aircraft in the sky are chemicals being sprayed on the population to keep them under control. A program of that size would be pretty hard to hide and honestly it more likely that straight up propaganda is more effective.

Maybe the conspiracy is to make the group that believes in chemtrails look so ridiculous that no one will believe anything they ever say again. So one day, chemtrails may indeed become a reality because we already "debunked" their existence and anyone who thinks that they are now real and brings it up is immediately silenced; cast out of society or doesn't even bring it up because they know no one will believe them
"lol"
This "conspiracy theory of conspiracy theories" is generally applicable to conspiracy theories though.

This isn't theory. Its been done by the FBI I believe. I forget the guys name but there was a UFO researcher that was monitoring a military base and the gov was concerned he was going to leak secrets by mistake. An FBI agent was assigned to him to feed him false info so that he would get off the trail. They drove the guy crazy. I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the documentary about him. I believe the FBI agent was in the film.
Then there's was the CIA to the Soviets during the cold war. They made fake documents and spread them in the USSR. That one backfired though. Another US agency found the documents and thought they were real. They showed them to Reagan telling him look at how advanced the Soviet's weapons systems are. We need to move forward with our programs. The CIA found out and went to the other agency and told them hey, those are fake. They didn't care. The docs backed up what they wanted Reagan to do so they didn't tell him.
For a long time I have thought that many of the conspiracy theories and people that push them are operatives either knowing or unknowing of the state. To keep people focused on stupid pointless stuff. There also has been a huge push to stigmatize conspiracy theorism. It wasn't like it is now when I was a kid. There wasn't a real stigma about it.
The meta conspiracy theory lol.
We do live in a post fact world. I firmly believe facts don't matter in the current political environment and arguing about them is a complete waste of time. Though it can be entertaining. If you pay attention to politicians I don't know how you cannot agree that facts don't matter. Look at senator Karen's recent actions. People pick their facts and lies to sell what they want to sell.
reply
When I say they drove the guy crazy, I mean that he was institutionalized. The FBI agent sounded remorseful but also that he was doing his job. If someone knows who I'm talking about I'd love it if you could help me out. I can't find the documentary or the people's names. Been to long.
reply
Yes, 100% this. The best lies are indistinguishable from the truth since they contain some level of truth.
It's a mystery to me how some people can think they are so clever and totally not gullible because they didn't fall for the lies of the government. Just to straight up believe the first thing they hear that is not coming from the govs, even if that reasoning makes even less sense, lol
Those people are just NPCs who think they aren't, making them even worse than NPCs in my eyes, lol

We needed three categories for this post: That's True, That Might Be True, and That's Ridiculous.

You're supposed to take one red pill, not the whole bottle... lol.
The birds aren't real thing is a troll. Creators have even explained it at this point. Pretty great one too.

the current model is definitely not what we're told it is
I'm trying to find some common ground here, (flat ground LOL). Which model exactly?
I agree we're not being told the true nature of our universe. Dark matter, dark energy, string theory blah blah bullshit.

I feel like you owe me sats for giving my time to this thought 😂

"Realizing you've been put here for a reason, instead of by random chance"
-> I'm not really sure how this follows from "the world is flat".
Do you have any recommended reading or watching with regards to the claim of the world being flat?
reply
There are a lot of shitty videos out there, just be prepared, but there are some good ones too. I'd start with this one:
You can also do your own tests.
reply
I know a simple test you can do. Go to the beach with cheap binoculars and observe a boat 10 miles away and how the bottom of it is hidden behind the curve of the earth. One of the flat earthers favorite claims is that this doesnt happen so i guess none of them into this even tried?
reply
I'll give you a better one:
Go to the beach and watch a boat "disappear over the horizon". Let it get even further away just to be sure.
Now get a Nikon P900 or better camera and zoom in on the boat. Watch the entire boat come back into view in its entirety.

I think YOU ought to try this because you obviously havent ( :

Definitely hasn’t!
Flat earthers make me sad. Only for the reason that wayyyy back when, before we had the ability to go into space, see the earth shape or explore every other planet (also sphere) we can see or even understand gravity and why that would make the word round … before all that people had ideas, dreams, stories and myths. Lack of understanding made led to this.
Now when we discovered all these other things ourselves some people just can’t adapt enough to let old fallacies die. Much like religion/god.
So for that I feel sad that people can’t evolve - hey it happens - genes, mutations, intelligence (or lack off) all die off in evolution. It’s still sad tho. With the effort we have put into the world to raise education and make it better we are still stuck with people and ideologies that hold us back.
Imagine where we would be if we didn’t have hundreds of years of the dark ages stopping science and philosophical growth….

If you say so 🙃
