Hi stackers! What do you think about hiding the zap sats in the posts while they are recent? One some time has passed, the sats would be displayed. Would this create better distribution of zaps? Better zapped content? Or would this make it harder to discover interesting posts? Would some people stop zapping because they need to do more work now instead of copying zaps? This is just an idea to discuss. Maybe an experiment that could be enabled for some time to test.
How many of you have not zapped something you may wanted to zap because you noticed it was posted an hour or two ago and still has 0 zaps? Does that influence you in your zapping? And how many of you have zapped something without even looking at the post because you have no time but you see it is being zapped a lot?
I'm all for experimenting with this. I don't think I'm part of the problem you're bringing up, but it's always interesting to learn more about our environment.
I am guilty of zapping content from certain people that I may not have zapped if someone else made it. However, that's because I'm thinking about the repeated game nature of SN and I want to reward people who regularly make content I value even if they miss the mark occasionally.

I always agree with @Undisciplined and try to zap him a lot. Oh, wait... Never mind

On reflection, this is a more important issue than I first thought. People (and more concerningly bots) are almost certainly gaming these early zaps to improve their trust scores and get larger shares of the rewards. These inauthentic zaps then elevate low value content and increase the noise on the homepage.

Yes. Good observation. This is exactly what I think it can be happening.

This is a good idea as it making the zapping fare enough for content over author

Well it should also hide the author then? But authors could just include their name in the post itself too.

I try to zap if it has proof of work. Some stackers are well known for their proof of work so I hesitate less to zap them.
I like zapping a 0 sat post a specific amount so you know who it’s from, at least until the next zap.

I like it. Maybe even wait a full day for those that don't see it within those few hours.
