pull down to refresh

I hope everyone had a great Christmas with their families. The 49ers ruined Christmas for me. Just kidding, it was still a great day but that was a one heaping turd they dropped last night. I am not too concerned about it. Would have concerned me much more if they played a clean game and got dominated but it you have 5 INTs (regardless if a couple are lucky) and over 100 yards in penalties you aren't winning, especially against an elite team like the Ravens. They are starting to stack some injuries on the OLine and that is a bit concerning but things could be worse. They could be the Chiefs. Shout out to the Raiders.
And shout out to @tnuts420 for winning the NFL Weekly Pick 'em and to @Undisciplined for winning the NBA Christmas day pick 'em. Two familiar champs back on top.
I watched a bit of the Raiders v.s Chiefs game, about half of the Eagles v.s Giants and of course all of the Ravens v.s 49ers and almost no NBA. I did catch some of the Mavericks v.s Suns game. I wonder how NBA tv ratings will compare to previous years when there are no NFL games.
World Junior hockey tournament begins today. Go Canada!
Sats for all, GR
It's probably safe to say that Purdy's out of MVP contention. I only managed to watch the first half of 49ers/Ravens (maybe not even that much) and it was 13-12 at that point. Catching up on the recap this morning was quite the surprise.

Yeah I think CMC has a better chance than him now but I think Lamar locked it up last night. Just one of those games where nothing was going right and frustrations were mounting and 49ers started pressing, trying to make things happen, taking unnecessary penalties. 2 INTs off tipped balls and one where Purdy's arm gets hit and it goes right to the defender. Lamar had 2 tipped passes as well but those just fell to the ground. Just one of those nights. 49ers D was playing really well in the first half but they kept having to defend a short field and spent way too much time on the field trying to defend Lamar and a physical Ravens team.
49ers don't play well from behind either. They can't get down 2 or 3 touchdowns and comeback because their OLine isn't very good. They get by with that OLine because of the threat of the run and short quick passes to the playmakers so you can't blitz them all the time or you will get torched by CMC, Deebo, Kittle. But if you know they have to throw downfield you can sell out to rush the passer.
I expect we might be seeing this matchup again in February and I expect a more competitive game. Ravens are a great team but if you play a clean game and force Lamar to throw downfield you can beat them.

I hadn't thought about it before, but I can see them not being great playing from behind. They have a really clever offense, but not exactly the same deep threats as some other dynamic offenses, especially if the line struggles in pass protection.

As crazy as it sounds they have never won a game when trailing by more than 3 in the 4th Q under Shanahan. Fortunately, they aren't behind in the 4th very often. Shanahan is a great coach but this has been an issue. To be fair, not having a clutch QB during that time probably hasn't helped. Sorry Jimmy but I never trusted you with a 7 point lead in the 4th let alone a deficit.
reply
That is a crazy stat. I like that the way they've decided to address it is to just keep reducing the odds of ever being behind. It's easy to forget how young Purdy still is, because of how successful he's been. It wouldn't be surprising at all if he kept getting better.

He will learn from this. He said in the press conference that 2 of the INTs were definitely due to poor decisions by him and he should have checked down to CMC on the first one rather than forcing it in the end zone to Deebo and he should have just thrown it away on the one to Kittle where under pressure he tried to force it and it got batted in the air.
He will get better.

49ers really torched my week of betting since I was betting heavy on their win. I am now down 3k sats overall and down 6k sats from my peak. I am going to need a couple really good final weeks to get back to even.

The Raiders were such heavy underdogs that pretty much none of the other outcomes mattered. Last I had checked, a niners win would have been better for me though.

Hope you had a great Christmas with your family! Sorry to hear that the 49ers didn't have the best game against the Ravens. It's understandable to be concerned about the injuries on the O-line, but it's good to hear that you're not too worried about it.

I felt the same with the bears they put up a good fight against the lions but still couldn’t do it

FYI I am not muting or flagging @NFLNomad's post but I am downzapping all of them until they cease.

I don't see much value to countless posts of headlines and pictures with no context, or engagement in broader discussions in the territory. Seems to me like farming for zaps.

I don't own this site. I just created the territory.

But the purpose of the site is to share content with the community and I'm also not asking for Sats or forcing anyone here, it's all voluntarily.

You aren't really sharing content though. You are posting a headline and a picture many times a day. Personally I don't see value in it, which is why I am downzapping the posts. If others like it they can feel free to engage and zap. It is voluntary. I am not looking to censor of stop your posts. I am just giving my opinion on them.

It's always exciting to catch some of the top teams in action. I'm curious to see how the NBA TV ratings will compare to previous years without any NFL games. The World Junior hockey tournament is also a great event - go Canada! Do you have any favorite teams or players to watch?
