The Michigan Wolverines are the national champions. I am highly impressed with JJ McCarthy, I think he is going to be a good NFL QB. Penix looked pretty beat up and Washington's OLine had no answer for the Michigan pass rush. They weren't even blitzing and still getting to the QB on almost every play.
We also have crowned a champion in our NCAA Bowl Game challenge. Congrats to @tnuts420. First, the survivor pool, now the bowl game challenge. Clearly a ringer.
Another opportunity to defeat him shall arise today. I will be posting the NFL playoff bracket challenge shortly. I am not sure any of the names of these contests make sense anymore, I just go with the first thing that comes to mind.
NBA trade deadline in less than a month. I heard it through the grapevine our resident NBA expert @Undisciplined might have something in store for us relating to the trade deadline. Maybe I can win some sats for once. (unlikely)
Sats for all, GR
Thanks for the reminder. I'll try to get the trade deadline challenge up shortly.
Next year, I think it could be fun to make it a weekly survivor pool that starts on 12/15 (I guess that's technically this year). I'll make a list of a dozen or so of the major trade candidates and we'll each pick one to not be traded each week.
reply
That will be fun. The weekly one's keep people involved and talking and zapping. The NBA in-season tournament was great for that because twice a week we had to make our picks. @needcreations_ wanted to do a baseball fantasy pool this season and I think that could be good for keeping people engaged on a weekly basis, even if we just make it a weekly lineup like fantasy football. I don't think we will get as many participants as football but if we can get 8 players it would be good.

The NBA Trade Season Challenge is here if anyone is interested.

Penix looked like he had no available time. But, with the praise everyone gave Caleb Williams, you gotta remember that when he came up against a a decent pass rush and didn't have time in the pocket... He also looked bad. So can't have one take for one and one take for the other (looking at you NFL media). But there's clearly some development required for both those guys.
McCarthy looked great, I think he's rapidly climbing up draft boards and may even enter the first round. (That QB tax is high).
reply
I think McCarthy will be a first rounder. We will see.
reply
he shows up like that at the combine and any open days... he might well just shoot up draft boards.
currently i've got it as 1. Maye 2. Williams 3. Daniels 4. Penix Jr 5. McCarthy as top 5 QBS with Nix Ewers and Sanders as some combination of 6-7-8. but this is hugely subject to change, its a long way to draft day. i think i'd be happy with the vikings getting Penix Jr or McCarthy and i expect them to be available at pick 11. i like Penix Jr more as hes just so accurate, but i'd also be fine with McCarthy, who might fit the KOC system a bit better. but like i said, its a long way to the draft.
reply
I had been hoping Daniels would still be there when the Raiders pick, but now it looks like Penix might even be off the board already.
I'm just hoping they're smart about picking up whichever non-qb's are sliding to make room for all those qb's.
reply
It's still early, the natchampionships have only just been played. QB hype is through the roof. Remember last year? Will Levis? Or the year before with Malik Willis? Every man and his dog had them projected in the top 5. It'll calm a bit before the combine... Then ramp right back up again 😂
reply
That's what I'm hoping will happen again this year. The thing is, Levis dropped in the draft, but he looked good when he played. Teams might take that as a signal to pull the trigger on the QB they want earlier rather than later.
reply
He did look pretty legit when he played. Hopefully the draft slide will humble him, cos the knock on him from what I was reading was character questions.
reply
A lot of teams want a QB of the future.
reply
You think Williams drops out of 1?
Maye might be a more NFL ready QB but I don't see them not going for the potential generational talent Williams brings.
reply
It's more a hope really... I don't want him at the bears... For his own sake. The bears is where talent goes to die.
reply
What do you think the odds are of Chicago trading down and rolling with Fields? The expectation is that they could get four first round picks for the number one this year.
reply
High. Fields has shown spurts of productivity when the coaching hasn't been inept. He needs oline help and weapons. They should prioritise that.
