Howdy there, partner! Welcome on into the Stacker Saloon.

Saddle on up to a stool and spill the beans about your day, fire away with them questions, or let loose and give us the lowdown on your wild and woolly life. We're all ears, so don't hold back!

We're open round the clock, so mosey on in whenever you please!

Since Chinese New Year is coming soon, I entrusted some students to decorate the outside of my classroom. They did a wonderful job. My classroom now looks inviting. I hope that they will be diligent this year and make their dreams come true.

Someone just sent me a DM on SN but I think we have a bug where we show an old nym (renamed nym in same session) since the nym used in the identifier in that message does not exist.

If the person that sent me that DM reads this, would be nice if you can send me another DM with your current nym included in the message itself :)

reply

I gotta ask a noob Q. What’s nym?

reply

Your online name. Actually a good question, I never heard the term nym before I used SN, I think.

Definition from Urban Dictionary:

The pseudonym a person selects and uses to sign his or her postings to websites, blogs, etc. so as to create a unique online identity without revealing their actual name/identity.

I learned something new today too...that it possible to send DM to another members here...
How / where I can find this "button"?

Nvm. Going strong, you!

Been pushing my 4 min attempt for quite a while. Promise to deliver soon and start incrementing from there. Lost some focus last few weeks.

The snail lives!

reply

Yeah, although my shoulder is feeling unusually sore. I will push ahead to 100, but after that will rest for a few days...!

reply

100 is a good time to take a break.

Assuming it’s not just worn out - I made the point to @ekzyis when he was doing his calisthenics challenge… you have to adjust your hand positioning to avoid overuse injuries.

reply

Yes, I thought I had good form but will have to evaluate this.

reply

It not necessarily just one type form but rather the variety of good form between your sets.

I've learned something really interesting tonight, it's called the gap limit problem.

The background story is I received a new payment in BTCpay today, but it's not showing up in my external wallet! so strange, and to make it even more strange, the newly created address is not even "matching" on the address lists in my wallet.

Basically the BTCpay dashboard shows the new payment and confirmed, also shows the correct balance, but no new tx in my wallet, ugh - where are my missing sats? 🕵🏼

After checking and asking around, I found out there is a thing called the gap limit problem!

The majority of third party wallets are light wallets, which share a node between many users. To prevent performance issues, both light and full node reliant wallets limit the amount (typically 20) of addresses without balance that they track on the blockchain. BTCPay Server generates a new address for every invoice.
With above in mind, after BTCPay Server generates 20 consecutive unpaid invoices, the external wallet stops fetching the transactions, assuming no new transactions occurred. Once 21st, 22nd, etc invoices are paid, your external wallet won't show them.
On the other hand, internally, BTCPay Server wallet tracks any address it generates itself along with a much greater gap limit.

so the solution I found is toincrease the gap limit. Currently, you can do this only in two wallets: Electrum or Wasabi; I used Electrum for it, and more details are here:)

thanks for sharing! Electrum is the best wallet

Howdy everyone!!
It's the middle of the week and boy has it been busy today, it's payday and busy as hell at school and reviewing exams, phew what a day, anyways, I wish you all an incredible day and may your day be productive and profitable. As always my friend, be well and stay frosty. Sorry for making the post short and sweet but not enough time right now, cheers!!

Just finished an early Lex Fridman podcast with Ido Portal. He mentions that some people spend too much time learning versus doing. I'm definitely guilty of this so it was a good reminder to work on discipline and build more. The last year has been helpful to dial in what works, now to just get to it!

reply

Ironically the War of Art is a great book about this (doing)

reply

Thanks I hate it. I got some stuff done today so I'm happy. Let the learning proceed!

reply

I'm guilty about this too.
It is time to do something :)
Thanks for reminder 👍

Nice. Channeling my kid's piano teacher... once you have the notes and fingering, try with metronome slow and smooth! Fun song.

reply
try with metronome slow and smooth!

Yeah, for some reason I struggle with just playing slow. I think that means I tend to overestimate my skills by playing faster than I should with my current skills. Or I think if I just play the same stuff often enough (even if it's too fast and thus seriously wrong), I think I'll improve faster? So therefore, I need to play as fast as possible to get more reps in the same time in as possible?

It's probably like when you go to the gym, you shouldn't just bench press your sets as fast as possible and completely ignore your posture, lol

Chris Dixon just released his book Read Write Own today.

I suspect most stackers want nothing to do with the book, some may even be afraid to comment on this post out of fear they’ll be associated with a16z.

Therefore, I figured I’d take one for the team and give it a read myself. Will report back with my thoughts and points I agree/disagree with once I’m done reading it.

reply

I quite enjoy a16z content. Knowing nothing about the book I suspect he’s a couple of years too late in releasing his book. Sounds awful boring.

reply

ALL book reviews are welcome in the ~BooksAndArticles territory. Well, I reserve the right to moderate in extreme cases. This isn't one of them.

The nice thing about teaching is that every day is different because you work with wacky individuals. Today, a retired NASA astronaut called Sam Gemar came to my school to deliver a talk on his career. He talked about how he dared mighty things and dedicated himself towards becoming an astronaut. He also informed us about how astronauts pee in the spacecraft. Fun stuff

I did a poster about his talk for my students subsequently. If only we can learn from one interesting person every day!

Cooking Rice the Turkish Way

As an Asian, I've been eating rice almost my entire life, but the Turkish way of cooking makes it taste so much better! 👀

Ingredients

  • rice
  • olive oil
  • butter
  • arpa şehriye
  • water ( they use hot water, quite interesting )
  • chicken broth
  • salt

How?

  • rinse the rice
  • add the olive oil and butter to the pot
  • add the şehriye and stir until light brown
  • add the rice, chicken broth, water and salt, stir
  • put on the lid and turn to low heat
  • wait and done 🤩

reply

thanks for sharing this, will try it out!

reply

Can it be called fried rice ? :)

reply

no, huge difference!

this was before put on the lid, and still being cooked; and the brown rice is called arpa şehriye, Orzo in English?

That's "pasta", right?
100 % wheat ?

reply
Orzo, also known as risoni, is a form of short-cut pasta, shaped like a large grain of rice. Orzo is traditionally made from flour, but it can also be made of whole grain. It is often made with semolina, a type of flour made from durum wheat.

turkish people also called it noodle 👀

can try without it!
