Welcome to the first issue of the Books And Articles newsletter. I hope to post this newsletter weekly on Saturdays to start, but that schedule is subject to change. I must credit @Scoresby with coming up with the idea when replying to my post laying out plans for the territory.
The purpose of this newsletter is to highlight and promote the best posts, with an emphasis on original content. Suggestions are always welcome.
Top Five Posts Of The WeekTop Five Posts Of The Week
The top post of the week will be forwarded 50% of the zaps earned on that week’s newsletter post. This might not be worth much more than bragging rights if the whole idea of this newsletter flops. Rankings will be determined using the SN zaprank.
Here are this week’s top posts:
This is the top post of the week. Congratulations to @plebpoet. This is way more than a discussion post, which is why it was so popular, IMO. I encourage everyone to read it.

I encourage stackers to use this territory for their personal blogs. So far SN has not seen many regular bloggers. I’d like to see that change for selfish reasons. I love reading blogs!

This is the first book posted to this territory, and I think it’s the first book posted to Stacker News. When @cleophas posted chapter 1, it really started me thinking about the possibilities for this territory in a new way. As for the book itself, I did not read it in its entirety yet, but from what I have read it is incredibly imaginative and very funny. Do not ignore the footnotes.
Hint: Perhaps someone would like to write a book review?

This feels like the start of something awesome here Siggy!
Been working hard on some stuff to post in your territory soon. I think SN has great potential as an incubator for writers - thank you for creating the conditions for this to happen.
Thanks. I hope so. I'm really looking forward to reading everyone's work. We'll see how it evolves. Ideas and suggestions are always welcome.
So clean and systematic - your newsletter
Thanks for taking a personal interest in us Stackers
He may look like a miserly son of a bitch, but deep down Siggy has a heart of gold (and I suspect a fancy hidden hat).
Oh, that's right you can hide your hat!
Excellent post!
I am so excited and so here for this. poetry coming up
Would you look at that... The first of many series (At least I hope to see more ideas like this in the future) has been issued!
You better keep it up, things like these can turn into the "hub" of the territory!
I'm a creature of habit, so I hope I can get past the first few weeks. From there it will be easier.
Yeah, you really should expand this with other formats, too- at least that's what I would do.
I'm all ears. What are you thinking?
I'm utmost sorry for letting you wait, Mr. Siggy-wiggy!!
Ideas:
Something that gets people engaging with each other and can act as a jumping board for people to post something of their own.
The above newsletter is a good start, though!
Worth waiting for. Thanks. I was also thinking of a weekly contest for original work, where I would give a prompt topic. I could award a bounty and sats split to be awarded in the next week's newsletter. I have to think it all through.
I didn't wanna say it, but I also think that some type of contest, where people can win a sat-bounty, would be the way to get people going.
I think I have a good first one in mind. Maybe I'll announce it later today and declare the winner in next week's newsletter.
Having made the inaugural newsletter, I must now endeavor to make the next one.
Wow, so many great book reviews to check out! Need to get finger out and contribute another write-up too.
Congratulations on this new formation. I will definitely contribute.
Thanks for collecting the most valuable "must read" from the past week! Good job, congrats!
Yeah, it's great to see what might've been missed. Could also help develop a following for longer term topics in the territory.
Glad this territory has been created !
I think adding ISBN references to a specific book will be helpful maybe somehow sales of a book ? Obviously promoting a book of a friend or self should be mentioned, but I'm confident you'll get a lot of suggestions. I will support the territory in anyway I can, Much Aloha
Thanks. I could use all the help I can get.
If this were say, 10-15 years ago, I might be able to help you with the blog. With all the AI stuff running around, I'm not gonna make one until there is some sort of "if we infringe your stuff we are really legally fucked" protection for anything as intimate as a blog tends to be. (People tend to take it as your public face/reputation)
I understand. You raise a good point. Privacy is critical, and anyone who posts here should be wary about revealing personal information. As a general rule, everyone should reader the Stacker News faq and legal disclaimers before posting here.
love it, nice work!
Thanks. Please chime in with ideas.
Knocked it out of the park in your first AB. This is great.
Thanks, but it's the first inning and I'm down by six.
Best time to be down by 6. You have the whole game to make a comeback. Your guy, Barzal, was looking pretty good for a chance at a million bucks last night until the final event.
I wish I could get into that stuff, but I just can't enjoy it. I just took your all star poll. They do all suck, the games and the skills competition. When I was a kid I loved the MLB all-star game. It seemed more meaningful. Maybe it was just because I was young and foolish.
I agree none of them are very good anymore. Both the NFL and NHL skills competitions were pretty bad. I still like the mlb all star game and the homerun derby and I like the 3 point and slam dunk contests in NBA.
