Woah glad you found a way to circumvent a potentially tricky situation.
How did your wife take it?
reply
You'd be doing a minor service to humanity with any of the latter three options, but stick with "Happy wife, happy life".

I disagree. Bitcoin is too important and relevant. It needs to be brought up and discussed as often as possible.
OP's wife should read a few books. After she reads Alex Gladstein's books, and Lyn Alden's book, and the Creature from Jekyll island.... she'll change her tune. Instead of "no Bitcoin" it will be "more Bitcoin".

As important as bitcoin is, stable marriages are more important. As in sports, always be aware of time and score.

But is it a happy life if you can't talk about the things that you care deeply about?
Honest question, I don't know the answer.
reply
It's a request to not talk about it at a particular event, not in general. If you can't make those minor concessions, then you're going to be bad at marriage and probably won't have as happy of a life as you could have.
reply
Yes. Real life is about compromise. I was actually heartened by the poll results that many people seem to actually realize this.

Mhh, yes, I guess I missed that. In that case, I agree with both of you. Guess I got a little triggered because of the topic and missed the point.
But to elaborate on my view:
I guess for me it depends on the reason why I shouldn't talk about some things. Because I already talked too much about them? Ok. Because the guests are new and we shouldn't confront them with "radical things" on the first time? Ok.
But if it's about "Bitcoin is dumb and I never want to hear anything about it ever again, especially not at this dinner with friends" then it's not a happy life anymore.
But I guess that's an extreme case. And I guess in that case, it's obvious.

Many of us repeat the vegan joke...
Q) How can you tell if someone's vegan? A) Don't worry, they'll tell you.
...but forget that the same claim could be, fairly or unfairly, be made about us bitcoiners too.
It may be tempting to speak about Bitcoin early, feeling we're impressing them as we've all those counterarguments lined up and data at our fingertips - but it's difficult to see how this might make friends or allies.
If everything goes well, and friendships are made, we all get a chance to be heard, with the walls and barriers down. We just have to make sure that they see us a fellow human and we see them the same way.
Friendships and allies take time: if they're rushed, friendships (and marriages) can sadly break.

Yeah but he might be eroding his ability to do anything at all. It's a long game.

You could say you misheard her and thought she meant, "KNOW Bitcoin" instead...
But I think the only sane answer is, 'Happy Wife, happy life'.
Plus, if they get to know you over some time, then they find out you're a bitcoiner, they won't have so many preconceptions (and might hear what you've got to say as you always seemed like a good guy).

The idea that bitcoin uses too much power is completely absurd. Fiat money reinforces rent seeking behavior, consumerism, short term profits and leads to enormous inefficiencies and waste. Bitcoin is the opposite, bitcoin is hope, bitcoin is how you can opt out of the system that "kills our planet".

The 4 choices you gave really sound like you're a really confrontational person. Maybe I'm assuming way to much into very few words here. But that's not a strategy to convince anybody. It might even be counterproductive.

Bitcoin helps the environment, I don't see the problem here?
  • it's the only methane mitigation technology that funds itself
  • it improves the bottom-line for renewables, and largely runs on renewables
  • it will replace most gold-mining
  • it will replace part of the banking/payments sector
  • it stimulates people to hodl, rather then spend on the high velocity trash economy (IMO this is the most underrated aspect)
  • it cuts the block subsidy in half every 4 years (wouldn't it be great if we stopped subsidizing fossil fuels that fast!)
Finally, climate activists are increasingly branded as enemy of the state. They will be debanked like the truckers within 5 years in some countries. Perhaps even the US if Trump gets elected... Better to learn and accumulate Bitcoin now
  • a climate activist
reply
Truckers and climate nut jobs have so much in common.
Maybe they can form a political action committee to oppose de banking
The reality is climate nut jobs face no legal consequences for vandalizing museums or blocking traffic or arson
reply
This is a total lie.
Climate activists have nothing to worry about. Trump didn’t debank anyone but maybe he should have.
You clearly have Trump derangement syndrome.
You are a climate activist sympathizer.
You are so full of it
reply
Feeling triggered today, are we?
Calling for people you disagree with to be debanked? What kind of bitcoiner are you 🤣
Showing your true colors now... authoritarian anti-freedom hack
reply
Stop spreading the lie that climate activists are being debanked.
In fact scumbags like Mann are suing people who disagree with him and won 1 million dollar judgment in the DC kangaroo court
reply
You have shown your true colors.
You claim to be impartial but you only criticize right wing people and policies.
What do you think of Tucker Carlson ?
reply
Go fellate yourself
reply
I am not authoritarian and anti freedom.
Are you aware of projection?
You’re doing it again.
More proof of left wing authoritarianism
reply
Stop lying.
I never called for anyone to be debanked except for the cast of Saturday night live.
What kind of bitcoiner spreads socialist propaganda such as climate change?
Not so much of a bitcoiner are you?
You are authoritarian as most elitists are

activist :- a person who campaigns to bring about political or social change. bitcoin :- brings political and social change.

Talk about related problems in society, do not mention Bitcoin (or anything related to it). Discuss fundamental stuff, make everybody curious about the problem and the possible solutions, eventually they will connect the dots a few days/weeks/months later.
Anyway, have fun and don't spoil the party, it is not worth it.
reply
Just tell her about limited supply (explain it what this mean), and make an analogy... Ask her, what kind of shoe / bad / jewelry / etc would like to buy it better... A serial production, which can buy anywhere at any time (like fiat money), or a "limited edition", like Bitcoin...
reply
Just the fact that your wife is a climate activist, would make me want to get rid off her.

good job

I can't imagine what having dinner with climate activists is like but it seems like it would be easy to get them to bring bitcoin up.
Example. What are some things you believe are threats to the planet people aren't aware of.

hodl for a couple more years, then get a new wife

I would say happy wife happy life is the most important part for yourself. But don't shut up yourself, you must be true to yourself. Your wife should love you as you are. Good luck ! :D If you notice that others are not following you on the bitcoin topic, don't keep trying. Let them be.
edit: oh I see it already happened... :D
