The SN community is awesome; I have yet to see any shenanigans that you might see on other commentary/social sites.
But, if you need to run a ne'er do well out of town, you can downzap such things.
Caution! I had to enter a 12 step recovery program to stop downzapping after I discovered the feature. With great power comes great responsibility.

Is that why the rewards pool was so high for a while?
reply
I believe that was the legendary @nemo 's doing.

It's more fun to think that you went on a completely unhinged downzapping bender.

How much did he downzap and how do you view it
reply
It would be scary if that information was available about other stackers. I'm just guessing based on his comments. My reply didn't mean to imply he only downvoted. He zapped like crazy and got all of us to zap more, which inflated the rewards pool.
reply
So you are saying nemo was a psyop?

Wait. I think I am.

Do you think people should know when they've been downzapped, if not by who?

Does the user get the sats from the downzap, or does that go to the pool?
reply
It goes into the pool.
Downzapping is a double public good. First, it reduces noise for the community and second, it enriches the community.

I don't think the recipient has any way of knowing about the downzapping though.
reply
It seems like it would be useful to know if a post/comment of yours got downzapped. Don't necessarily need to know by who but that it was and maybe how much could be nice to know.
Although flip side of that is: if you are getting downzapped, you might not understand why and it would just be unpleasant to worry about. Ignorance is bliss and all.
reply
Making it visible gives the recipient an opportunity to learn that what they're posting is really disliked by the community and unlikely to gain traction. If that matters to them, they may rethink how they're presenting their content.
I definitely think we should be able to see if we're being downzapped.

You whippersnappers with your new features, always new features! I'll stick to good old upzaps.

for such a hidden feature it’s actually getting some good usage.
according to analytics, 89 different stackers downzapped content in January.
reply
I've downzapped hard on a few things and shortly after got them outlawed. So use with caution, that was not my direct intention. Not sure what the limit is or if I was the only one.
reply
When I saw the downzap feature for the first time, I thought it meant getting back your zaps on post and comments you already zapped πŸ˜‚ but in really it does the function a downvote button offers.

hehe yeah I wondered something similar when I saw it, was confused 🀣🀣

Heheh, You double down instead?
reply
I did, though I've never used it. It might take a lot for me to seriously consider downzapping. I'd rather just zap good content or be the change I want to see

LOOK OUT, MIGHT DOWNZAP AT ANY TIME
YOU'VE BEEN WARNED

Yes I downzap all sats farming posts in the sports territory. It's one of my joys in life.

I think some territories here have really clickbait quantitative posts. I would like to downzap them but it really isn't worth it if nobody else downzaps them or cares.
The specific thing I'm thinking of are also muted by a lot of users already so that's not helping to get them further down on hot.

Downzap any Sat Symbol discussion Waste of everyone's time

Also, if you downzap somebody and then unwittingly upzap them later, it cancels it out (I think 🀣)
