No, I don't trust politicians and I don't want them to have more power. Politicians should serve the people, not the other way around. That being said, if you actually look at the changes to the zoning bylaws, you will find that these municipal politicians are not getting more power, but quite the opposite, they are giving back power. For example, not requiring building permits for low impact projects; more clear, concise, and predictable rules so people know what to expect and can plan according to the rules.

i definitely understand your point. what makes me suspicious is that this concept is one of the fundamental political initiatives of the WEF. that's why i don't trust it and i've seen it being set up in England with cameras with barriers etc in trials. in England there is a real freedom movement of men who keep dismantling these cameras.

The WEF initiative is not merely the 15 minute city, but with the inclusions of surveillance, movement control, spending control, and control of every aspect of life for each individual.
I will stress my view again. I don't see anything wrong with developing communities that have more mixed use buildings and businesses, provided that people have complete freedom of movement. There is nothing wrong with encouraging the build out of walkable communities. What we don't want is government control over the people. And these two things can be mutually exclusive.
I was in Edmonton for 3 days and 2 nights in March 2022. There were no surveillance cameras. We went where ever we pleased and were never stopped or questioned by anyone. We drove an out of province car with an out of province plate and no questions were asked.

i have no idea where you all suddenly got the feeling that the state can regulate urban planning, commercial settlements, retail, housing better than the free market. for god's sake, let people, investors, traders and entrepreneurs decide where to settle in a decentralized manner in the free play of forces. i have lived my whole life in big cities in southern europe in central europe and have never had the feeling that i lacked anything spatially or materially. the state has never prescribed a concept here, it has merely made areas available on which people could then develop relatively freely. please never forget this: when such projects appear, state actors are only interested in imposing more control, more power, perhaps higher taxation.
