Hello Stackers!
Do you have a product you wish to advertise to a specific audience of music enthusiasts?
Your own music? A piece of kit you want to sell? Or any kind of advert you wish to run? Looking for vocalists? Drummers? Brass, strings or wind? For a project you're putting together, or even looking for producers for a project you need help producing. This might be the space for you.
You can now rent Pin space to increase the visibility of your post. Comment below if this would interest you. Length of time and fees is negotiable.
this territory is moderated
How much to rent for 24 hours?
reply
5k is the ballpark figure I'd start with. Or 25k for the full week. Like a boost but for much longer visibility.
But it does depend on what the purpose of it is. I'd be open to negotiating percentage based commission deals over fixed price rates.
Eg. My cut of income generated by SN music could be say 15% (plucking numbers out the sky) customers buying your product would be identifiable with a code like "SNMusic" or an option to select SNMusic from a drop down under the "where did you hear about us" question. I generate you revenue I get a cut of that. But that's details to be worked out, and very deal specific.
Why'd you ask? Got a little something something cooking?
reply
Just want to do a test.
Would you rather I pin my stacker news blues song or my next episode of Sounds from the Great White North?
reply
I think creating engagement content, such as discussion posts like sounds from the great white north isn't suitable for pinning. (I know I pin the daily discussion, this is only to differentiate it from every other daily of the same name). But if it's a product you want to pay to get better visibility then that's for you to decide how you wish to market it and I am willing to provide the space for it. (Although I feel that kinda content should remain "free" to post for creators).
The song however I'm 50/50 on. On the one hand I don't want to rip anyone off paying 5k a day pin fees when they could utilise a bounty post to find musicians willing to work on it. But I also recognise that if someone wants the benefits the pin could bring, I'm not going to discourage that.
I think it's up to the individual how they see fit to market it. If the pin is the route they choose, then I feel that after a conversation to ensure this is the best option for the person and the outcomes they're trying to achieve, I would happily rent the pin for any advertising purpose. But for me, I want that conversation to happen to ensure the buyer is getting the best value the whole territory can provide.

The only issue with the "i am looking for a bassist" type of pinned post is stackers are all over the place.
I think people promoting their music or if someone has a music blog, or maybe a music app they want to promote. Why don't you reach out to the noderunners radio guys and see if they want to promote on the music sub.

Awesome idea. For the "I'm looking for a bassist" I'd really envisaged having a conversation with the person and helping them find the best solution which could be a bounty post over a pinned ad. But if someone's adamant they want it pinned, I'm not going to discourage them. Perhaps I explained my thoughts behind the pins usage poorly, but effectively anything anyone wishes to advertise and promote above and beyond the exposure a normal post and/or boost would achieve, I'd be happy to help facilitate. But I more see it for artists putting their own music front and center on an album preorder or release.
Perhaps in the future we'll have beats by Dre asking for ad space to SNs Music audience. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It's something I want to provide, but also something I don't want to waste people's time with. Which is why I feel it's important to have a conversation with a potential client to ensure I'm providing the best and most appropriate service to them that I can. I think the noderunners is an excellent place to start.
reply
I realised I never actually answered your question.
Yes, either, whichever you'd rather promote as I'm only currently offering 1 spot.
However I personally feel that the sounds of the great white north content should remain "free" to post unless you're adamant you want it pinned. (By free I mean, normal posting fees apply, which you make back+some when I zap it because to me it's worth zaps). And I think the song might be better suited to a bounty post. But there's no reason you couldn't have a pinned bounty post should you wish to have it.

I will commit to buying a 5k pinned post slot but I am thinking I am going to donate it to a deserving musician. Give me a few days to sort out who should get the spot and coordinate with them.
reply
Absolutely. That's really cool of you to kick start it off like this. I pinned ncryppt EP release the other day for a similar reason, to help budding musicians get exposure.
reply
Nice! I wish I was a musician.

Ooooooooo that's 🔥 could I suggest changing "a big blue screen" to "The big blue screen" in the IT world... The big blue screen means it's knackered. Also referred to as the blue screen of death.
reply
That was the implication. Even luddites like me know of the blue screen of death.

Lennon/McCartney type discussion.

Maybe like the knock version you buy on Canal street. Just call us Lemon and McDonalds.

Man I could kill a McChicken sandwich right now.

I didn't think it could have passed you by but I thought making it really obvious added more punch to the Judy.

Tragic tale, but a great song.
reply
All good blues songs have a tragedy element to them. My tragedy while terrible was not as bad as yours with a woman stealing your coldcard.

As Albert King would say, If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all.

Yes great line.

Keep eyes open incase someone starts asking for some lyrics written. Wordsmith like yourself might find some employment.

I'm ready to crank out some blues lyrics:
Woke up this morning
That's all I got so far.

We can definitely write the Stacker News Blues. Let's crowdsource this.

and felt so blue.
We can do this 💪

Here's what I got:
Coinkite Blues
Woke up this mornin, she was gone without a trace I said, woke up this morning, she was gone without a trace Looked around the room, I could hardly recognize the place
I met her down in Pub Key, drinking whiskey, wine and beer Said I met her down in Pub Key, drinking whiskey, wine and beer When the man yelled out last call She said come on, let’s get outta here.
We went back to my place, everything was oh so fine I said, we went back to my place, everything was oh so fine Believe me when I tell you, she damn nearly broke my spine.
I just climbed out of bed, took two aspirin for my head I said I climbed out of bed, took two aspirin for my head I went over to my laptop, but there was just an empty space instead.
My mind it started spinning, It sure wasn't worth the fun My mind it started spinning, no it wasn't worth the fun My desk drawer was opened, how could she do what she just done?
reply
Not too shabby.

@Public_N_M_E has ideas on improving it and adding music. Maybe we'll see his first SN music video.
reply
I wouldn't even know where to begin with a music video 🤣
It needs a chorus: I got dem coinkite Blues, From my head right to my shoes. I got dem coinkite Blues, From my head right to my shoes She even got my seeds And you wonder why I got the blues?
reply
Not gunna lie... It is straight rubbish off a dodgy throat (cos Ive had the man flu) recorded on mobile sat in my car 🤣🤣 but I got something... What I can't work out is how to upload an audio file...sooo I'll try and work that out and get back to you with the file.
reply
Ok... So oddly enough I've been able to hear this (or at least, hear something) in my head.
Just for fun I might add a really simple blues line to this and see how it sounds. Could be a giggle. But I'm by no means a good guitarist.

Excellent! I didn't know you played. I'm thinking in e with a few cliche blues scale licks thrown in.
Now we need a guy to sing it with a gravelly voice with a nice acoustic blues guitar accompanying him.
