I don't know why Shanahan stopped running the ball for those 3 drives. Purdy said they surprised them by switching to man to man after playing mostly zone early so I guess Shanahan thought he was going to be able to exploit one on one matchups but the OLine was barely hanging on in the pass rush and Chiefs DBs are really good. Should have just stuck with the run the ball, play action game plan. When he got back to it they started to move the ball again but unfortunately couldn't convert into TDs which left the door open for Mahomes.
They had a real psychological edge in the first half, but they didn't maintain it. I'm now resigned to the Chiefs threepeating next year. Hopefully, something this offseason with change my outlook.
I don't think so. Half of Chiefs D are FAs. They can't keep that squad together and they don't even get close to the superbowl let alone win it without their D. Their one benefit is that no one is probably going to challenge them for the division so they will likely have a top 3 playoff spot again.
The AFC North is going to wild next year with Burrow coming back. All 4 teams are playoff caliber. Also, the Bills don't lose to the Chiefs this year if not for half their starting D being out. I think the Chiefs will probably be the fourth or fifth best team in AFC going into next year.
Getting away from the run killed the 49ers. CMC touched the ball 3 times in the 3rd quarter. Purdy threw way too many passes in a game where they where they didn't trail until 17 minutes left. Chiefs also got the most important bounces (blocked XP, fumbled punt)
I think he played a pretty decent game overall, and the game was very close, down to the wire even in OT. Basically down to the very last play of the game, could have been either team's game.
Yes. He wasn't Mahomes, made a couple questionable throws but also had some dropped passes and the OLine had way too many false starts and left guys completely unblocked a bunch of times. I would have liked to see Purdy use his legs more and roll out of the pocket more but I have no complaints about that performance in the biggest game of his life against a really good D from a guy who has 1.5 years as an NFL starter. The 49ers don't need Purdy to be a top 5 QB. He wasn't the reason they lost.
Ya, They had their chances, didn't deliver... is all. Brock himself can't win the game, this is a team sport.
Plus, "never underestimate the heart of the champion" You need to beat them.
In the end, KC wanted more and they got it. This is a new dynasty in the making, the one I can actually stomach...lol
I don't know about KC wanting it more but I do agree that you can't underestimate a champion. You gotta take it from them and the 49ers had too many mistakes to do that. Chiefs are a dynasty but it will be interesting to see what they look like next year. Their D was the reason they were in the super bowl this year and about half of their starting D are free agents including Jones and Sneed who are their two best defensive players. Hard to imagine they keep them both.
Yes, and I'm tired of pretending he couldn't. Or however it is people say that quote.
Purdy played great, some brilliant execution on timing dependant throws. Once his oline got banged up he started to get a little too much heat. Chris Jones is a stud. Karlaftis is a stud (I really rated him coming outta college he's going to be a force, not as impactful immediately as others in his draft class, but he's a stud, you'll hear his name called as often as you used to hear JJ Watt.)
Mahomes was able to exploit the middle after greenlaw went down (heal up soon man best wishes on a speedy recovery) and I don't think shanahan did any favours switching up from his zone scheme to man. If it ain't broke don't fix it and it weren't broke. That 9ers D was an immovable object before they started tinkering with it. And the offense was just proficient enough to get some points if they'd kept doing what was working. Granted TDs were sparse but you can win games with FGs and an elite D.
I thought he played a pretty damn good game. A break here or there and he would have.
When they stalled out in the 3rd, I lost all hope.

With that first drive fumble and all the injuries, there were a lot of signs that it wasn't going to be their day.
My dad and I were prematurely celebrating the Chiefs seeming to unravel emotionally in the 2nd.
Some bad luck but a lot of missed opportunities. Greenlaw being out really hurt. Burks played ok at first but they feasted on him late in the game.

How dare you?
Chris Jones
Chris Jones is a free agent
Sneed too.
Pacheco fumbled near the goal line but everyone knew the Chiefs would bounce back
No CMC on 3rd down or play action π
Wait until you hear that I think the Leafs will win the cup this yearβ¦
Couldn't even beat the Senators. Then had to cheap shot a guy from behind because he taunted them. Loser culture spawns loser behaviour.
But why is said guy doing slap shots into an empty net?

Jennings almost won SB mvp!
No team has won 3 straight titles since Vince Lombardi packers , 1965,66,67
The 49ers, cowboys, patriots, Steelers, dolphins, broncos won 2 in a row but not 3.

Commiserations 9ers, and congratulations Chiefs.
Of course not
