Garth is comparing the status quo as if it is the only option. I think the status quo is not the only option nor is it good.
Continuing to avoid global famine is the most important goal of this system.
This is propaganda. Profit is the primary goal. Just like most things in modern society the profit motive is hidden as some evil thing. Profit is amoral in reality. What is evil, is deception. Pretending the goals are some higher purpose is used to trick the masses into a state of mind where they do not think critically. When people go into an interaction with the thought that this guy might be trying to make a profit their guard is up. I don't doubt that individuals are driven by a goal of solving world hunger, but still profit is the goal that is really driving any business.
This is another problem with the state. When the state "approves" things we are conditioned to think they are OK. That they are safe. Those of us that are awake even fall into this trap. Its a false security. Don't trust. Verify should be the default. This use of high morals is how war is justified to the masses. We have to send money to protect the innocent, while the state props up other states that kill people.
My issues with lab meat are not about the factory farms practices. I buy mostly free range meat and eggs. But growing meat in a lab is something that is new, untested, and unnecessary. I do not oppose people doing it. Or people eating it, but I will not be one of them.
The alternative to lab and or factor farms is lower time preference farming. I'm not an expert on Permaculture but its sustainable farming practices could be reproduced more broadly. We have the land. From what I have heard from those in the movement modern ag practices are destroying the soils of the world. I learned about Permaculture during Covid and it kinda blew my mind. Basically I believe we've been fed a lie about modern agriculture. That this is the only way to feed the world. I bet there are people more knowledgeable than eye on this topic on SN so don't waste your time arguing with me on this topic.
Anyone who’s so much as raised a tomato in a pot has experienced the strange dissonance of killing weeds so a chosen plant can grow
I wonder if Garth would enjoy learning about Permaculture.
