So far I’ve found four apps that support Log in with Lightning so far, but pretty sure there are more:
  • Stacker News
  • LNMarkets
  • Kollider
  • Zapread
There are also over a dozen wallets that support LNURL-auth as shown on @fiatjaf’s LNURL-rfc:
  • Alby
  • Balance of Satoshis
  • Blixt
  • Breez
  • BlueWallet
  • CoinOS
  • LNBits
  • @LNtxbot
  • Phoenix
  • SeedAuth
  • SimpleBitcoinWallet
  • ThunderHub
  • Zap Desktop
  • Zeus
Are we missing any apps or wallets from this list?
Have you tried logging into SN with Lightning?
Will this be the preferred log-in method for all Lightning apps moving forward?
My current account was created via email. If I want to login with my personal LN wallet, how does it work? Do I have to create a new account?
reply
You can go into Settings > Link Lightning, and then anytime in the future if you log out and log back in, you can log in with your email or Lightning credentials to access your current account.
No need to create a new account.

I did this (and got confirmation via blue wallet) then tried to un-link email. Gave me warning that if I ever logged out I could not recover account…is this warning in error? Thanks for help.
try out LNCal https://lncal.com. I love it! ❤️

Interesting concept!

Login with LN is what can really replace password authentication in the future. It decouples your identity with your online account. It's more secure and fast to use and it doesn't leak information about you
Hopefully one day will we use LN Auth like we use email/password combo today

I’m curious what if you lose your ln wallet. Are you locked out of your account forever?
reply
Not sure, however Stacker News let’s you link multiple authentication methods (Settings > Auth methods) to also link an email or a twitter account or github account in case you lose your ln wallet
reply
As far as I know, if you don't have a backup of your wallet and the account is not linked to anything else, you lose your account.

Always login with lightning. Its by far the best ux.

This is such a wonderful enabler! I cannot wait for more services, apps and websites to use this. Together with the sats-tipping on SN, it feels like micro (nano?) payments are here. I cannot wait to see ad-supported shit social media (and more) to fall in obsolescence. Value for value. Suggestion: When logging in via LN on SN, if balance is zero, offer to fund: better UX, less steps, ready to distribute updoots all around.

Hello Stacker.news
BitBanana just added support for LNurl support.
BitBanana is the fork of the now discontinued Zap Android
more information on the fork can be found here

Does Alby actually support lnurl-auth spec? Last I checked, they used their own "WebLN" implementation.
reply
Yes, they support LNURL and WebLN

BlueWallet
I'm struggling a bit with BlueWallet and LNURL-auth, what do I need to do to access stacker.news with LN? 🤔
Nice post @kr, is so refreshing to see good things developing so fast like the LN ecosystem, in a world full of noise and things breaking apart

This was an awesome read!

Log In With Lightning is neat, but how does it work? Is it a special protocol on top of LN, or is it like a fake invoice or something like that?
I'd like to add that you can also sign in via webLN via the message signing function. Does not require a QR code scan and works best with browser extensions (like Alby) and browsers inside of apps (like Breez, Blixt, Blue). I find that the smoothest experience. I'm currently trying to gather best practices for "Log in with bitcoin" UX, here's a video with a recent update.
So sad Muun doesn't support that...
Lightning Network is amazing that innovation is being created.. web5 💡⚡
Despite wallet confirming authentication, no response from ZapRead
I use Alby and I can connect using a node. It would be nice if they added 2fa to recovery to an account so it doesn't rely on an email and be tracked.
