someone I know who works at Google told me they literally hard-code race-base switches into their algorithms. Like in photo-detection, if the skin tone is darker than a certain threshold the code will treat it differently. SMH
Why is google doing this?

That's not a secret that "someone who works at Google” has to tell you 😂
Google openly said that for years. Image search tries to find photos with a diverse group of people.
And it's not even always a negative e.g. camera exposure being different for darker skin is something that all smartphones do. The photos look better this way for everybody. No debate 🤓
