It's another busy night in the NBA, as if they're trying to make up for the missed time during the all star break. 10 games today with many teams playing their second game of back to back games.
Of course I would talk about the Raptors first. The Raps came out with an incredible win over the Hawks. The game was close, but the Raps were able to hold on and get the win. IQ and Barnes both had good games. Another thing that caught my eyes was that everyone who played for the Raps got double digit points, except for Jordan Nwora, who got 0 points with 0/5 field goals. Talk about team work, and talk about standing out like a sore thumb. A good win by the Raps on the second night of a back to back.
Cavs played the 76ers, both teams without their star player. The game was close until the final minutes, but Maxey made a clutch 3, then a clutch mid range fade away, then followed by an assist to a clutch 3 by Hield to pull away from the Cavs. Towards the end, it was again Maxey who made clutch free throws when the Cavs started fouling. The 76ers came out with the win over the Cavs.
Heat vs Pelicans was also a close game until the final 5 minute mark when the Heat started to take over, scoring clutch baskets and also stepping up their defense to shut down the Pels. The Heat widen their lead and won comfortably. When you look at the stats for the game, the 3 point shot was the difference maker. The Pels out rebounded and had more points in the paint than the Heat. But they shot 7/32 (22%) 3s and that was probably a major reason why they lost. There was a huge altercation that almost turned into a brawl early in the 4th of this game. 4 players got ejected including Jimmy Butler. See video below if you like to watch drama. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWsqwFbXeXI
Wizards got owned by the Thunder, which was to be expected. But damn, that Thunder offense is crazy. 129 points last night vs the Clippers and 147 points tonight vs the Wizards. It's as if these young guys can just score at will; also I guess back to back games don't mean shit when you're young. In Wizard land, Jordan Poole played his second game off the bench. I guess the Wizards is no longer his team. Maybe Poole can be a classic example of what happens when you don't stay humble. Odell is right, stay humble and stack sats.
Clippers had a close game vs the Grizzlies. The teams were still changing leads with 1min35s to go. Harden scored a clutch contested 3 to put the Clips up by 4 with 46 seconds to go, make it a 2 possession game. That basket by Harden was pretty much the dagger; the Grizzlies were not able to regain the lead and lost in the end.
Another close game tonight was the Suns vs Rockets, where there was A LOT of free throws near the end when the Suns started playing the foul game. Sengun had some clutch free throws to keep the Rockets ahead and helped bury the Suns away. Bol Bol had 25 points and 14 rebounds, how about that?
The Nuggets destroyed the Trail Blazers, while Joker got yet another triple double. At this point, the man is a walking triple double. I forgot to mention in yesterday's post that last night, the Joker joined the club with LeBron and Westbrook of getting a triple double against every NBA team (except his own team, duh). Simply amazing.
Warriors beat the Hornets on a low scoring game. Shots don't seem to be falling for both teams, especially the 3 point shot, with Hornets shooting 11/39 (28%) and the Warriors shooting 13/42 (31%). The Warriors were in control and had a comfortable lead throughout the whole game though, and it seem like the Hornets never had a chance.
The Bucks vs Timberwolves game was fun. The Wolves kept it close and even got the lead for a while. That was until the Bucks went on a 20-2 run near the end of the 3rd. That 3rd quarter run pretty much defined the game, and the Wolves were never able to recover from the deficit, ending up with a loss to the Bucks.
We are finally at today's last game, the Spurs vs the Lakers. The Lakers, with LeBron back playing today, had the lead most of the game. The young Spurs tried to keep up with the Lakers, but were never able to gain the lead. Spurs with yet another loss, but Wemby with yet another double double with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Oh yea, he got 5 steals and 5 blocks again too, just like yesterday vs the Kings. Need I say alien?
If you're still reading this post at this point, I admire your patience and your interest in reading basketball recap. Congrats, you went through my brief yet not so brief wall of text NBA recap. I promise tomorrow's recap will be shorter, as there are only 3 games scheduled. Let us end this long ass recap with my subjective play of the day. With the shot clock winding down, James Harden makes a move and takes a contested 3 with 46 seconds left on the game clock. He makes the 3 and puts the Clippers up by 4. Big time play!
Feel free to comment on anything that I missed or anything you would like to add / discuss. Cheers and have a good night!
I was most impressed by Wemby's steals this time. The last time I saw him, it was his passing that stood out.

The guy is the real deal. Can't imagine what he can do in a few years when he gets used to the NBA, gets better, and have actual good players around him.
reply
What did you think of the Grizzlies city edition court?
I begrudgingly messaged @Undisciplined on nostr last night after I saw the highlights of that game to admit that I hated that I liked that court.
Great recap as always.
reply
Did you? It must be taking the scenic route through the tubes.
reply
Yes, I don't always seem to get my mentions on nostr either.
reply
I didn't like the court. Something with that grey color and the sort of texture they added to the color that throws my eyes off.
reply
I usually dislike all these novelty courts but for some reason I like this one. It is supposed to be an homage to the concrete courts of pickup basketball. I actually think they did a good job.
