I’ve been tracking the public capacity of exchange nodes, and have noticed a few interesting trends.
  • First, River’s nodes are growing like weeds. River has added 72 BTC of public capacity in the last month, almost as much as Bitfinex.
  • Southxchange is a sleeper node, they operate an exchange in Argentina and have been quietly adding capacity over the last few months. Their Lightning node is bigger than much larger exchanges like OKEx, Okcoin, and Bitstamp.
  • Fixedfloat is another big mover, they’ve grown their capacity by 24% in the last month, and offer no-KYC swaps between a bunch of coins.
The brackets below refer to the amount of public capacity added in the last 30 days.
Bitfinex: 786 BTC (+85 BTC) River: 246 BTC (+72 BTC) Kraken: 156 BTC (+3 BTC) SouthXchange: 87 BTC (+7 BTC) OKEx: 60 BTC (-5 BTC) Boltz: 50 BTC (+3 BTC) Fixedfloat: 49 BTC (+10 BTC) OKcoin: 40 BTC (-14 BTC) LN Markets: 30 BTC (+0 BTC) Bitstamp: 18 BTC (-1 BTC) Kollider: 10 BTC (+2 BTC) Bullbitcoin: 7 BTC (+0 BTC) Bipa: 3 BTC (+0 BTC)
Are there any exchange nodes I’m missing?
Another "interesting" thing to note: where are Coinbase's, Gemini's and Binance's LN implementations?
reply
Thanks for sharing your observations. Livingroomofsatoshi is not an exchange but they do share their data and the last 30 days LN was 11% of their payments.
reply
love it, thanks for sharing the dashboard.
are they related to or owned by wallet or satoshi?
reply
I found this list, which is a nice summary and link to each of the nodes as well: https://github.com/theDavidCoen/LightningExchanges

@k00b or @kr, are bots compatible with stacker.news like that classic twitter one above?
Interested in this topic too

Not currently. We could eventually add them, but we'd have to figure out how to fund/charge bots ... and allowing any programatic access needs to be done carefully.

Maybe you could add a sort of bounty for responding, so if I wanted a "remind me" style bot to remind me, I could set a bounty which it could collect by responding to me. This would help finance development of useful bots. It would also be good for Q&A's, to disincentivize spam.
reply
That's a neat idea!
reply
That's a cool idea. To tag on, I think the bots should be able compete with each other -- not just on time, but also on quality. I.e. multiple bots could respond, but only the best bot gets the bounty

lol yes, automate everything and take away the human element. humans bad, machines good. 0011010101001101010101

One could write a bot that reads html via beautiful soup or something.
This might work as long as SN is still small. And the finances could make it real fun. But the reading could be heavy traffic when SN grows...

I can personally vouch for OKcoin. I shoot all of my sats from my ZBD & Blue Wallet there and it seamlessly will convert over to BTC.

Maybe coinos.io/about

You're missing buda[.]com there. I think this is their node.
It's apparently +0.36 BTC in the last 30 days.

RoboSats! Also, considering that you included Boltz, Lightning Loop.

Good call on Robosats, will add to the next one

Good to see that there ir a good node in Argentina. Well done xD

What about NiceHash ? it is am exchange
reply
Interesting, thanks for posting. Is this extra capacity useful to the network as a whole or just to the exchanges?
reply
It likely serves both use cases for exchanges.
I know Kraken disclosed earlier this year that they had earned a few million sats in routing fees, but of course their node is also used to support exchange deposits and withdrawals.

Great article thanks!

do you know their node pubkey?

No, but they have lightning withdrawal.
