I was just watching the Bitcoin Atlantis event and it was a panel about miners & home heaters.
Just wandering if you have any opinions about this products?, is it too early to buy one of these?, do you think you will recover your investment soon?
What do you think about it?
Cheers
I have Antminer S9 at home which I turn on from time to time when I want extra heat. But, yes, it's loud, not 100% compatible with wife. :)

I have three s9is that I just keep in the house. They're loud, but if you just move them to rooms you're not in, it's not too bad. My kids actually love putting in ear plugs and just sit by the miner fan to read. I admit, that probably doesn't appeal to most, but they were REALLY affordable to pick up compared to some of the things I've seen designed for this.

Loud and unreliable. A great DIY project though. You'll want a baffle box and make certain you know how to fix the mining rig. I'm not bullish on it saving anyone money or decentralizing the network.

Cool concept but more of a novelty. It’s expensive for its hash rate and even with low electricity costs < 0.08/kwh you are probably better off just buying BTC.
If I lived in North Dakota, where electricity is almost free (.04/kwh) and need heat 10 months/yr, it might be worth it.

Well I think the appeal to these type of ideas is more decentralization than profit. I doubt I'll ever even get my money back on my s9s (partly because I keep giving them away so other people can do this), but if we get to the point where every HVAC on the planet is hooked up to a miner, we're more decentralized than ever. I admit, that's a hyperbolic scenario, but even an eighth of the HVACs on the planet vs. attack entity X would be a pretty stacked (pun intended) fight.

I agree that is what is needed. An appliance integration like HVAC, water heaters, etc, with real hash rate. A $500 space heater with only 14Th isn’t going to decentralize much.

Yeah, fair enough
