Hands up, those of you who have been feeling poorer than usual. 🙌 With the Daily Rewards being on a hiatus, I find that I have to dig in deeper in order to sustain my SN routine.
Hands up, those of you who have been spending too much time looking at the Leaderboard for the Million Sats Madness. 🙋‍♂️🙋🏻🙋🏾‍♀️ I’m guilty of this. I know that I need to get a better grip on myself but…
Have you heard of the term “money dysmorphia”?
It refers to a feeling of insecurity around their financial situation even when the true picture reveals little cause for concern. Sounds like me. I know that I will probably get placed in the Top 64 by 31 March but I can’t quite shake off the uneasiness that comes with traversing this unfamiliar territory. My mind and heart need some time to reach alignment, I reckon.
On the whole, I welcome the Million Sats Madness because it thrusts into the open certain questions that make me reflect on my SN behaviour. Earlier, I wrote about continuing with an Abundance mindset..
Today, I want to write about flourish amidst MSM. Our environment might have changed, but our inner vessel remains intact. If you have been following the discussions on the Meditations book club, you might be intrigued by Marcus’ reflection on how there is divinity within each of us sentinent beings.
This is a very long preamble to my article. Let me get started.
  1. Determine your goals
I’m not referring to your position on the MSM leaderboard. I’m talking about your sats deposit and withdrawal behaviour prior to MSM. Because more likely than not, you will have to decide whether to remain unchanged or adapt your behaviour for March. My goal has always been to accumulate enough sats to buy a Bitrefill gift card or two. Shall I leave this goal on the back burner for now so that I can go all out in zapping others? I needed to calibrate my expectations; you will need to do so too.
In a given month, perhaps I can earn about 50-60k sats, thanks to Daily Rewards. I have decided that being able to buy one Bitrefill gift card will spark more joy than my placing on MSM. Because it’s a more tangible goal that I can work towards. Also because my beer stock 🍻 has run out and there is something heartening about the fact that I buy beer with the sats I earn from my writing. If this isn’t Proof of Work, I don’t know what is!
  1. Change my behaviour
If I refuse to change my goalpost and stay intent on zapping my default zap amount, something has got to change. This means that my posting has to be increased. There’s no two ways about it. I think I’m posting on average three times per day (as compared to one time in Feb). Will I get burnt out? I think not, because it’s only for a month. There’s something freeing about the way my neurons get fired up and make new connections and inspire my muse. It’s like when I give myself the permission to post more, my creative muse rises to the occasion. I’m tougher than this. I can do it!
  1. Be strategic about posting
Did you know that the top 5 posts on this territory will get extra zaps?. It’s easier to be motivated when you know where the cheese is because all you have to do is to follow it and pray that you get it (instead of being pinned under a mousetrap).
  1. Have fun
Yes, the MSM is a competition but you don’t have to treat it this way. The reason why I stare at the leaderboard so much is that I’m examining the other metrics as well. How many sats I stacked in total when compared to other Stackers? How many sats I gave away? Oh goody, I got a referral already! How do I go about getting more? Find your own fun in this madness!
Sensei’s two sats’ worth 😝
TOP TIP: Post/Comment & ZAP good content !

I was a little disappointed that the 30k I zapped towards the ~econ crowdfunding drive didn't do more for my standings, but I guess that means the rankings are resistant to being gamed.
I'm having fun with this. I think it will be interesting to see what changes about people's behaviors. We might also learn something about our bot problem by getting rid of their daily meal.

Yes, I quickly realised that I am not accountable to anyone but myself at the end of the day. Sensei has integrity!

There's a (supposedly new) user on #2 right now with only one post, nothing else. 😜🤣

I wondered how your zaps got so high all of a sudden.

I am not going to check the leaderboard tomorrow. Haha

I withdrew 80K to pay for a year of Mullvad the other day. Fortunately stackers are generous enough to keep me going!

I also feel motivated reading your message because it reminds me that earning 80k sats is possible and can buy me valuable things.
What are you happy in regard to Mullvad?

Its sad when you wake up every morning knowing there's no daily reward anymore 😢

It’s okay. You will get through this

#4 is certainly the most auspicious objective for which we all are here. IMO, MSM is all about getting the fun factor back on track. #1 I completely agree. And here's my suggestion. Don't ever run out of your beer can, lest you run out of ideas as well.

Great advice! I’m working hard for my beer money now

Money dysmorphia is a very interesting turn of phrase. There are people, one person in particular, in my close circle that I immediately linked to this term because no matter how much money they earn and save in various assets - and it is a lot by any standard, they perpetually fear loss and deprivation. It's kind of a hoarder's mindset that I have observed. On the flip side, I know people on the edge of poverty that appear completely content and "happy" living simply and seemingly unconcerned with their financial health. I guess this would be termed "money eumorphia".

Thank you for your comment! As an English teacher, I learnt that the prefix -eu is the opposite of -dys. So thrilled to learn something new

Eugenics, euphemism, euphoria are other words that share this prefix from Ancient Greek.

Did you enjoy studying Ancient Greek n Latin when you were a student?
reply
Enjoy is probably the wrong word, especially at the time. I did not realize how much it would help with learning languages in the future. Once you have Latin, learning the Romance languages comes with a 60% down payment already made: Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian all share the same foundation. It's like having C and then taking on Awk, Perl, Python, and so on. I also think the structure of Ancient Greek helped me think about data structures and other systems in deeper ways. It molds ones thinking.
So the answer is that I did not really enjoy learning Ancient Greek and Latin as a student, but I am tremendously grateful that I did.

Sounds like what Steve Jobs said, you can only connect the dots looking backwards

TIP: Dont expect too much on getting in Million Sat Madness cuz its impossible. Just do the daily Zapping, posting and commenting, im sure thats enough to be rewarded.

Is it for only march, or this going to continue every month?
