I wish I knew how much fun it is making shitcoiners seethe when I mention it. Fav wallet so far is zebedee because I love static address and don’t know any other apps like that

Zebedee looks excellent, thank you for sharing. I think it has huge potential in gaming - I saw this Lightning Network Poker application. Would anyone be interested in scheduling a time to play a round? https://lightning-poker.com/

Clear net vs Tor privacy issues.

I early on had a Lightning node with a public IP which gained a good amount of peers and inbound liquidity. At some point I realized that on 1ml.com and a couple other sites you could geographically track whereabouts the physical node is located. I was only experimenting with an amount of sats i was comfortable with but the inbound I had back then made me feel uncomfortable and like a honeypot. Had to travel and leave the node unattended for a couple weeks so I decided to close all channels and sweep my sats.

I learned to set up a new node on Tor a few months later. It was a lot harder to gain peers, getting a power bank and some other gadgets made me feel a lot safer leaving the node unattended for longer with software to safely shut down when battery power is low etc etc.

My 2cents.

How long did you know about the Lightning network before you took the plunge? Did you re-purpose an old computer, or did you buy a dedicated piece of hardware (Rasberry Pi, etc)?

i remember when lightning first came out, but i had no idea why or how i might use it.

i remember thinking tippin was a pretty cool project a while back too, but didn’t really dive deep into Lightning until Jack Mallers’ Bitcoin 2021 announcement.

only took me a month or two after that to set up an umbrel/raspberry pi node, which dramatically improved my understanding of ln.

You making any money on the Lightning node? I am syncing a HDD at the moment, but it's taking quite a while for BTC to copy over - 40 days and 40 nights.

i’m not actively routing, but there are a growing number of node operators i’ve heard of making hundreds of dollars per month by routing payments or selling liquidity.

some of the large players are making thousands per month.

If you are running home node a UPS is a must and the more Linux command line you know the better you can troubleshoot. Also LND is unstable along with tor so random Channels going offline is super annoying

CLN is also unstable with tor. It sucks to constantly need to restart your node.

I've enjoyed Muun wallet for a while now, the integration between LN and on-chain is seamless.

I wish I understood the security/backup of my node better still to this day. I'm constantly checking uptime on my node and hoping I don't have to try and recover channels/funds some day.
