I'm slowly but surely getting sick of all these "bitcoin memes" like 1 sat = 1 sat.1
People just apply it to everything now. Like yeah, we get it. Bitcoin supply is fixed.
Doesn't mean you can now just use "1 sat = 1 sat" as the answer to everything. You can't use one true statement in one context and apply it in a completely different context and still believe you just said something that's true and clever. You only disqualified yourself from the discussion.
I feel like I read too much from @elvismercury.

The "Bitcoin fixes this" crowd, which likes to slap that as a bandaid onto any criticism or "problem" they deem worthy of said bandaid. It's pathetic.

Update: I think I might have just crossed over and have become so tired of this that I won't even fight it anymore. Everyone who takes the other side is either un-serious or delusional, and there's no point arguing with either.
Pointless arguing on the internet is something I would like to go to zero in my own life.

It surely seems like it but I feel like there must be some more effective angle. A common technique is to only let them talk by asking questions which at some point lead to some contradiction which should make them think. It just feels I haven't gotten good enough at it yet.
Pointless arguing on the internet is something I would like to go to zero in my own life.
Me too but sometimes, you just can't help but get your hopes up high that "this time is going to be different". But time is definitely spent better writing longer, thought-provoking posts than replying in some random thread to some random dude. It has more reach and is more convincing. I try to write longer posts to balance stuff like this and this out.
reply
It's as good a strategy as exists, but it presupposes people actually care about the truth and are trying to understand the world. If you're not discussing in good faith, there is no value in engaging.

Memes are great advertising, but when you start making arguments based on advertising things go poorly.
Doesn't mean the memes aren't true. Besides I really enjoy bitcoin's meme world. Bitcoin fixes evil aliens and holding your own keys is sexy.

Yeah, it feels as if we want to educate the whole world how to be sovereign but we don't even trust them with understanding arguments not based on memes. I thought we wanted to build a new, different system and not enslave people in a new system of idiocracy.

There's a devil-spawned weed in my backyard. I pull it out, try to find the taproot, pull it too, but it's vexing. At each joint it roots. Despite my plucking, it always returns. Today, it occurred to me it's a distributed network with no central point of failure. It's unstoppable.

Love the metaphor (even if I'd rather not think of BTC as a weed), but as someone fighting the good fight against black swallowwort every day, I also feel your pain here.

I will say this: a weed doesn't think of itself as a weed. That's just a word we humans put on certain plants. Stop the weedism! 😄

True! I think of dandelions as the classic example. So useful and also pretty, but they're considered a "weed" because they're not generally planted.

After this post I will will head over to Bitcoin Brunch #147. I'm hoping to get a little organizing/planning done for Bitcoin Day Miami on May 11th. I plan to record a bunch of introductory interviews with the speakers as promotional material. We should announce a bunch of speakers this week. I also want to do a screening of Dirty Coin that weekend, I think it would go well with the other activities. This month, the non-profit education and community support organization should get federal tax exemption, at which point I'm going to start begging people for money :)

It looks like posting on Wednesdays, Thursdays & Sundays is a great way to get an additional boost of sats when sharing engaging content on the site. For discussions & comments, Mondays and Fridays are the standout candidates.
Or is SN geographically dispersed enough that it doesn't matter.

The Bitcoin blockchain has been referred to as a Timechain. It tracks time in an immutable way. Which is very powerful. Thought about a use case that could help offset deepfake video, which is or will become a very serious issue soon..and that is, images and video footage can be hashed and that hash stored on the Timechain serves as hard evidence that the image/video was recorded NO LATER than the Timechain time stamp. I can see a future where certified cameras are designed with video hashing built in with automatic content hashes stored on the Timechain. Where video authenticity is crucial, early customers of this tech may include CCTV and police body cam feeds, among others.

I am a bit surprised to learn that many Stackers are teetotallers. But me asking the alcohol question made me dig up my materials on sake. This is just me decluttering my notes (and hoping to earn some petty sats haha)
Let’s Learn About Sake
  • Sake is made from fermented rice, water and koji - white rice imbued with a special kind of mold. It ranges from sparkling to namazake (which tastes best straight from the vat, unpasteurised)
  • During brewing, fermentation produces acids and glucose that bacteria thrive on. These bacteria will deteriorate the sake quality, so refrigeration is necessary to slow down their growth.
  • Temperature-controlled containers are used to export sake. It is recommended to refrigerate sake at 5-10 degrees Celsius.
  • Did you know that 1 October is World Sake Day (Nihonshu no Hi)? It makes the start of a new sake-brewing season that lasts until April the following year. October also ushers in autumn, a time when spring’s young brews mellow and start to become more complex.
  • This is why hiyaroshi and akigari - sake variants - are only available in autumn. As they have been stored in the brewery for close to a year, they have milder, more well-rounded flavours. They typically pair well with fatty varieties of fish, mushrooms & seasonal vegetables.
  • The best way to savour sake is to let it slowly wash over your tongue. Don’t down it like a shot.
  • Typically restaurants start with a light nigori sake, then an elegant junmai daiginjyo paired with seafood and sashimi, followed by a more intense koshu (aged) sake paired with beef, and then a sweet, smooth sake to go with dessert.
  • Sake goes well with fresh oysters as its cleansing properties remove the oysters’ briny taste.
  • Most sake should not be heated to over 50 degree Celsius.
  • Watch Erik Shirai’s ‘The Birth of Sake’ to understand how the labourers go through thick and thin for six months to brew sake at Tedorigawa sake brewery.

Alcohol is fun but clearly removes many abilities to form and execute long term plans if you drink a bit too much.
Zero alcohol might be too much order from me, but too much alcohol makes life too chaotic. The right balance makes a great life in my mind.

reply
It’s 2050. We are heading towards the dystopia where grass only serves a purpose for the fiat elites. There will still be grassy areas behind high private walls, on public land (but you have to pay carbon credits to go there) and in the arenas where broken athletes entertain the masses by putting their bodies on the line to pay for tuition. Areas that haven’t been built on will be rewilded in a bid to attract the wildlife our fiat businesses destroyed…. no bees have been seen this summer. We have 5 years. Bitcoin could have fixed this.
