As of now monero is a cheap layer 1 in terms of fees and an option for those who do not have enough saved up to open a lightning Bitcoin channel). That said it is not so cheap to run a pruned monero node, as one cannot prune much more than signatures. RISC-V support would make it cheaper to run a monero node.
