So the madness is going to end and we will never know who won?
You guys need to rethink this for next year. It's a fun event but might need some tweaks. Sats prizes shouldn't be so top heavy. Not complaining here but I have probably increased my time spent on SN by 20-30% and I am going to end up with probably 30k less rewarded sats for the month than I typically get. I know it's quality not quantity but that feels intuitively wrong. My current estimated rewards are not too bad compared to some really prominent stackers I see lower down the leaderboard who are estimated to get only a few thousand sats for an entire month. I also think the rewards should have been split between the contest and some daily rewards.
Also, this should have been a great way to attract new users. Tying into march madness and alluring them with an opportunity to win a nice chunk of sats but instead has just been a contest to increase engagement from super users.
Fun event. Needs some re-evaluation for next year to make it better.

this shouldn’t be the case that you earn less, will modify the payout curve in future versions.
also, don’t forget that the total reward pool will continue increasing for the next two weeks, so you’ll earn more than whatever you’re projected to earn today.

we do have work to do on attracting new users, my hypothesis was that MSM would create more quality content (which it has), and that all the lurkers viewing the site every day would then be more likely to set up accounts and contribute themselves (this hasn’t happened). working on some new experiments to change this.

True we do have 12 more days in the month after today so I might end up with similar rewards to a typical month as the rewards pool grows.

Isn't it kinda weird that we never got to know who we are actually competing with?
reply
It is kind of weird. I respect stackers desire to be hidden but maybe there should be a trade off. If you want to be hidden, you aren't eligible for say the top 5 prizes or something like that.
reply
I say why not make them ineligible to compete. They want something so they must trade it.

Would it be a good idea to hide the statistics and only show the user's identity?

Thanks everyone for your feedback in this thread, I shared the thread internally so @k00b and @kr will definitely see it. I also think daily rewards were better.
Since I don't want to rewrite what I wrote in our internal Slack, I'll just copy paste my message:
i think the sentiment of stackers regarding MSM is bad. i think i mostly read people complaining about it and not many who think it's good, especially after we were a few days in (i don't think there are many who (still) like it but are silent).
if i could choose between daily rewards as before and monthly rewards as is now i would be very in favor of daily rewards since i think that system was working well. afaik, the main reason for MSM was to experiment, incentivize long-term contributions and making it more fun.
however, i think the daily rewards were good enough: if you didn't contribute in a day, you missed out on rewards for that day. so the better you get at "playing SN", the more rewards you get every single day. and seeing a daily notification and your placement was fun enough imo. the effect of getting your first daily reward notification should also not be understated. wasn't that a very good way to get people hooked on SN?
so all in all, i think we should go back to daily rewards next month and rethink what problem we have and want to solve with changes to daily rewards.
Keep in mind that this is just my personal opinion based on my own experience and what I read from stackers about MSM the past weeks.
