Oh man, l was an English teacher in Taiwan for a few years during the pandemic.
How are you liking it?
The students l taught, especially the older students, didnt want to learn much.

Welcome to SN! Thx for spending time on my bio haha.

I have always been an English teacher all my working life. Based in Singapore, short stints in Japan n Laos.
I don’t mind the wrestling with students part because I really like English. A month ago, my students told me that in their world, spill the tea means gossip. It’s just mind blowing to me language keeps evolving. Haha.

However, teaching is a profession that discourages deep work because we wear many hats and have to settle a lot of admin stuff. Guess I chose my poison.

I would love to teach in Taiwan one day because I’m Chinese. But I don’t think they would ever accept me as an English teacher haha.

Which part of Taiwan were you at?
N what are you doing these days?

reply

I was in Taipei.
I work in a processing plant now.
I find it a lot easier working on machinery than listening to kids talk back in a illogical manner in broken English. Lol

You intrigue me haha

Where r u originally from, if you don’t mind sharing?
Why stay in Taipei instead of venturing elsewhere? Wages are low n costs of living r high.

I’m back in Singapore now. My life plan was to teach EL all over the world, but alas I fell in love n decided to get married hahaha

I worked as a PR executive for three months after Japan. Decided that I rather have power struggles with disrespectful students than face the laptop screen the entire day
