When genre crossovers work.
I was in a Aerosmith mood the other day and played a bit of this. It was this collab that got Aerosmith back in the game.

That's actually my favorite Run-DMC song, and my favorite Aerosmith song as well! Not a huge Aerosmith fan in general, but I do like some songs here and there.

reply

I'm not a rap fan in any shape or form, but done like this and I'm all in. It's just classic.

Joe Elliot of Def Leppard has said that their song Pour Some Sugar On Me is also a rap track or at least takes a lot of inspiration from rap. What do you think?

I can hear it in the beat, it sounds like something that would get sampled. I don't know that I would call it rap rock, but with a few adjustments like Walk This Way it could lean that direction. I'm no expert though!

I wouldn't say I'm a rap fan in general, I would say jazz, country, and classic rock would be my favorites. There are certainly some rap artists and songs that I really enjoy though. I've found there's a few styles within the genre that I like, and I don't stray much farther than that. I really enjoy it when rap crosses over to genres like country and rock though!

This is a classic! Have always loved this one!

Phenomenal. It's feels like this track was the OG crossover song that sparked all the rest. It's definitely one of the most prominent ones. Banger 0b1 great track.

Just like 0b1 said. When genre crossovers work... They usually absolutely rock!. And this is no exception! 👊

Ocean Colour Scene - The Day We Caught The TrainOcean Colour Scene - The Day We Caught The Train

Classic britpop rock, a track from their first album Moseley Shoals. 90's indie rock at its best with fabulous hints of Beatles running alway through the song.

Block by block you are promoting the Beatles and changing my opinion of them 🤣 or at least trying to 😜

Great tracks 👊

reply

I do seem to mention them quite a bit 😂. Tbh I wasn't a huge fan of theirs until fairly recently and it was more the music from the later years, rather than the early stuff. You can see there influence everywhere. You can just hear them in The Day We Caught The Train, probably more the the Mcartney sound than Lennon.

reply

Yeah, their influence is undeniable. But for me I just couldn't buy into the hype about how they were "the greatest band ever" and all that media buzz.

Everyone (well the media especially) loves to throw around the term GOAT but in something as subjective as music, I can't buy into the idea that one idea of a song is superior to another. Hell most of the versions of Beatles tracks I enjoy are actually covers from other artists giving their interpretation.

reply

Oh wow, I haven't heard Ocean Colour Scene in donkey's years! Definitely Beatles vibes!

What do you think of this for Beatles vibes?
