That's My Quarterback
Yesterday amidst our discussion around over/under win totals I made a comment about Justin Herbert and how I had thought he would be a perennial top 5 QB but I am not sure I would even have him in the top 10 right now.
This had me thinking (I know, dangerous thing to do) who would I put in the top 10? The first few are easy but then it starts getting a bit difficult. So I am going to give you my list for you to tear to shreds. Remove guys, ad guys, rearrange guys and let's see if as a stacker sports community we can solidify a top 10 QB list.
This is a right now list. Not the past decade or projecting who will be great the next decade.
  1. Patrick Mahomes
  2. Josh Allen
  3. Lamar Jackson
  4. Joe Burrow
  5. Dak Prescott (unless it's a playoff game or against SF- haha)
  6. Brock Purdy
  7. Matthew Stafford
  8. Jared Goff
  9. CJ Stroud
  10. Jordan Love
Alright, have at it.
Sats for all, GR
I'm going to give more weight to playoff performance:
  1. Mahomes
  2. Allen
  3. Burrow
  4. Jackson
  5. Rodgers
  6. Stafford
  7. Stroud
  8. Purdy
  9. Hurts
  10. Herbert
I'm a bit on the fence about Tua, Dak, and Cousins. I could imagine any of them being in the top 10.
I don't quite believe in Love or Goff.

If we get a few entries and come to a rough consensus on 10 even if we all don't agree on order, it would be fun to guess at what the list will look like end of next year. I would say Brock cracks the top 5 and maybe you see a resurgence from Rodgers, Cousins or Herbert.
reply
I feel like Brock is so hard to evaluate, because he has the best weapons in the league and a great offensive scheme. It's obvious he's good, but I don't know if he'd be better or worse than Cousins if they swapped teams. It might just be that Jimmy G was much worse than anyone realized.
reply
Brock is great. His only drawback is he is small so he gets passes tipped a lot more than bigger QBs. If the 49ers actually got a good OLine for him he would be a top 5 QB. Even Andy Reid was praising how well he reads the field and his timing. He has only played 1.5 seasons and didn't have a proper offseason last year because he was rehabbing. Shanahan trusts him. I think this year they are going to throw more. They burned out CMC, he was still great but he was wearing down come playoff time. I think they will use CMC less and throw more.
That being said. I think you could put Cousins, Stafford or Stroud into 49ers offense and get a similar result.
reply
I didn't include Rodgers because he did not play last year. I don't know if he has a leg to stand on. Haha.
Dak had an incredible year. He just sucked against the 49ers and in the playoffs otherwise he might have been the best QB in the league. I couldn't decide between Tua and Love for 10 but I gave the edge to Love due to TD/INT ratio.
Hurts and Herbert are interesting ones. I feel like both should be up there and this time next year either could be sitting at 5 but right now I don't like them in the top 10. Cousins I also discounted because he was hurt and we don't know if he has a leg to stand on either.
reply
I'm just not ever going to be scared of Dak. I know he puts up good numbers, but I'd rather face him than all those other guys.
reply
Speaking of rankings. It looks like not much movement in the MSM rankings the past couple days. I think we are at the point where other than subtle changes everything is locked in. It's like the end of the baseball season when a guy has 500 plus at bats and four at bats in a game doesn't move the needle anymore.
You think we are pretty much locked in now or do you think there will be a late surge and jockeying for position at the end?
reply
Darth jumped up to 4th this morning. He had been behind me. I think that must mean that there's not much separation between all of us between about 4th and 8th.
reply
If that's the case then there will definitely be some jockeying as we get to the end. April 1st can't come soon enough. Haha. I have probably spent 50% more time than usual on SN and am going to likely get around 20% less rewards. I don't want to make it about the rewards. It shouldn't be about that. That's not why I came to SN and why I spend so much time on the site but it feels off.
Looking at the list, there are some really good stackers that are only going to get a few thousand sats in rewards. I have to imagine that's a huge drop for some of them just so one person can get a million sats. I like the idea but I definitely think it needs some tweaks for next year.
reply
kr mentioned that zapping has been up this month, so maybe that's balancing out the lower rewards for people. I hope it is.
reply
Yes, hopefully that is the case. I also don't like the idea we aren't going to know who won. I respect your right to hide yourself but I don't think you should be eligible for the top 10.
In a big game I would take any of these guys over Dak. In a mid season game against the Commanders. Look out. Dak is gonna throw 450 yards and 5 TDs.
Haha. As much as I like to rag on Dak he did have a really good year last year.
reply
Dak Prescott is what the media (who spent years shitting on him in MN) want you to believe what Kirk Cousins is (funny how the acquisition of him at the falcons suddenly makes them contenders... Good ol' media flip flop bias).
Anyway... Dak isn't that. He's Dallas media bubble Jared goof.
  1. Mahomes
  2. Allen
  3. Lamar
  4. Joey KOOL
It gets a bit mucky outside of here as most of them are interchangeable. Or arguements could be made for anyone of them to be above the others...
  1. Hurts
  2. Kirk Cousins!!!
  3. Herbert
  4. Stroud
  5. Tua
  6. Stafford
Kirk was playing at an MVP adjacent level before he got hurt last year. And 2022 he was great. Sure we blew a game against Danny Dimes and got him paid like royalty (dimes owes Donatell a thank you). But to have him consistently outside the top 10, is just slanderous 🤣.
But I do love how him going from Justin Jefferson (the best WR in the NFL), TJ Hockenson(a top 3 TE who probably isn't #3) and Jordan Addison (who looks like he could be any other teams #1 WR) as receiving weapons to... Drake London, and Kyle Pitts... Makes him more likely to suddenly be a contender???? Boooooloney as our red white and blue friends would say.
reply
If Kirk wasn't hurt I would have put him in top 10. I also didn't include Hurts in the top 10 since he was awful the second half of 2024. I guess I could have excluded Burrow or moved him lower because of his injury but I think he deserves more leeway than Hurts and Cousins.
I don't see how you can possibly have Herbert, who has all the talent in the world but has done nothing the past two years and Tua ahead of Purdy and Prescott.
reply
I couldn't have him outside the top 10 and was fast running out of room. Honestly I think outside the top 5... 6-15 is pretty interchangeable.
Purdy, he's tough to judge because he's been successful, but also, there's a part of me that thinks I could be successful in shanahans system. So I'm kinda still waiting for him to prove it a bit more.
Tua when healthy and on form can be lights out. The first half of the season the dolphins looked unstoppable. But he couldn't sustain it.
But Dak, maybe it's just a personal Vendetta, for the last several years all I've heard from fox or ESPN is how Kirk can't get it done in big games... And then how they jump to defend Dak who "just needs a better supporting cast" or "it's such a shame he can't stay healthy, otherwise he'd be elite". It's just such a crap narrative from them about Dak and I just can't buy into it. He's had a fantastic supporting cast for years and just crumbles in big games but gets off scott free about it. My Kirk defence makes me anti Dak 🤣
But yeah anyone around that 6-15 could be changed and swapped out viably for any of the others... Except Jordan Love... Because he's a greasy grimey green bay packer and I won't acknowledge him as good until he leaves in FA and joins the jets inevitably 🤣
reply
If you discount the weapons and system in Purdy's case why don't you do that same for Tua? He has the fastest WRs in the game and the fastest RB and still had 2 less TDs than Purdy and 3 more INTs. Plus McDaniel who helped design the 49ers offense.
Fair point about Dak. I should have had him lower despite him having an incredible year as a penalty for being a disaster in big games.
I think it's going to be a tough year for you because I think the Packers are going to be good.
reply
You make great arguements and point out the hypocrisy in mine. I can't defend that stand point after having it pointed out. It seems inadvertently I give Tua the benefit of the doubt but not Purdy. Perhaps despite success I still hold something in the idea that Tua was a highly touted draft prospect... But purdy wasn't. Although he's been successful, it's really hard to believe that every single scouting department across 32 teams was wrong about him. Yet there they are... Wrong, whilst he has had better success with arguably lesser weapons than the 1st round pedigree Tua. It's an inconsistency in my thought process and is probably unfair to purdy to still count him as irrelevant despite having shown he is not.
Tua... You may fall into the interchangeable 10-15 and Purdy, you may have Tuas spot.
reply
Wouldn’t be the first time guys got overlooked because of size and athletic traits. Brady was picked late and Brees was picked in the second round and Kurt Warner wasn’t drafted at all.. In retrospect all those guys should have gone first overall in their respective drafts. I am not saying Purdy is in the same class as those guys but it happens that guys fall through the cracks and then develop into great players.
reply
I mean when you say it like that it almost sounds ignorant to have taken the stance to overlook them and Purdy in the first place. But absolutely, sometimes the scouts get it wrong... Remember the Chosen Josh Rosen?? The cardinal's may have done him dirty but he went 2nd overall and was meant to be the next big thing. Perhaps I need to reevavulate how much stock I place into what their draft stock was and more into how they've actually performed.

Purdy and Dak definitely have more weapons than Stafford but Kupp, Nacua and Williams are not slouches.

  3. All the rest

Stroud's such a tough case. It's so easy for folks to come out strong as a rookie but not keep it up due to injuries or whatnot (RG3, etc). I might drop Allen a few spots because he seems guaranteed to have two or three surprise duds a season, and I'd probably throw Prescott further down the list just because of his big game issues, but otherwise, this is a pretty solid snapshot, and I don't think I can come up with a better one.
reply
Fair points. Stroud was so impressive for a rookie though. He and Collins seem like a magical tandem that could be great for years but you're right maybe it's small sample and recency bias.
