Well, it wasn't very true to the books.
I've been giving the Chinese version another try and I think it's better in many ways. (The first time I tried watching it it was only available dubbed which explains why I thought it sucked.)
Oh yeah, it definitely made some changes, but I thought they worked well for folks who don't have the books as a background. I'm giving it a few weeks before I watch the Chinese one so I don't over-compare them.
I ended up watching the series and it was quite good. Looking forward to the next two seasons.
