Hey!
I’m a bitcoin journalist obsessed with documenting bitcoin around the world.
Here's my latest story from Bitcoin Witsand in South Africa!
I'd love to hear what you think, Stackers.
I hope it inspires you to do more with bitcoin.

The question is , how these store pays for the supplies they provide ?
reply
That I don't know yet—although there is undoubtedly some exchanging into other currencies. Question then is, do they try to trade in the dollar or the rand when interacting with the 'outside' world?
reply
They are @bitcoinwitsand on Twitter and you can also find Them on Nostr!

Inspiring story. What would be your key takeaways?
  • Parties rather than Bitcoin meetups?
  • Loud minorities can create change? aka bitcoiners are changing the world?
  • Adoption is spreading? Ppl understand their local currency can't compete against the USD dollar (or British pound)
Thanks for sharing those inspiring insights! Are the witsanders aware they're also having an impact on the green transition, adopting Bitcoin is good for the environment, promoting renewable energy?
reply
Very inspiring!
I'm very envious to see that. I live in a 5 million people city and I can't barely use my bitcoin to buy anything...
Thanks a lot for bringing this :)
reply
That's somehow the reality for a lot of people. The real question is, what are you doing to change the situation?
reply
I'm not good at that. I ask if they accept bitcoin at places where I buy, but they laugh nervously, like if I asked "Do you sell cocaine?" or something... So what would you do there?
reply
Do you have some bitcoiner friends in the city? If not so, are there any. Presumably (and statistically speaking) you'll find some. Are there some monthly/weekly meetups for bitcoiners in your city? If so, then it's a good start to meetup with other people and maybe start talking about bitcoin to merchants. If there are no meetups, then start one. People are the engine of the bitcoin explansion, so meetup with others and figure this out.
reply
Yeah, we have a meetup, and we have a few places to buy some drinks with sats. But beyond that, I almost cannot pay for anything with them...
reply
Just keep up with the work and keep pushing, people are simply drowning in their day-to-day life and maybe need to be made aware of Bitcoin and its advantages

Check out Vancouver, BC. North America's number one community that actually uses Bitcoin!

Joe, another wonderful piece from you. I've been sending your videos to family and friends without much context because if they can't put the pieces together after watching your stuff, that's on them.
I LOVE the parts of this video where you take the time to explain some important things to the people who may need the explanation. I will be mass forwarding this video to all my no-coiner friends and family. Please, keep that up! Even if it feels redundant to you.
BEAUTIFUL!

Man this comment made my day—thank you!!
Yessir, more family friendly explainers coming your way! :D

Are there no black Africans in Wisand, South Africa?
reply
Living there? I doubt it. There are some 'coloureds' living there, but the black communities are very separate still... it's a really sad situation
reply
Amazing! Bitcoin is winning. We are winning.
reply
I never knew if such places exist in the world. Thanks for the video and information. Good job.
