Who did it better?
The Guess Who (original)

Lenny Kravitz (cover)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzWHE32IxUc
Kravitz by a (wait for it)... Country mile. π He really does this song well.
I go original here
The Guess Who were a great band but I think I like Lennyβs better.
Bold take. I like it.
Kravitz's cover took full ownership of that song.
Itβs a great cover.
I love the story telling in this song. Reminds me of when I lived in Chicago in the 90s.

No no no
Don't like the metal core additions? It's definitely controversial.
Something about changing genres here I wasn't feeling
Wait is coolio not the original?

I definitely prefer the original Bee Gees version, but Take That did pretty good too! It's not an easy song for some vocal ranges.
I thought this was about to be a club song for a second
Not quite! Although many people I've talked to remember them for their disco songs, they did a variety of styles over the years.
Take that did a great job on this. I hadn't heard their version before. But really really great job.
AIC

Aaron Lewis

Damn Bellzer
...
You got me stumped. I love Aaron Lewis's vocals. But AIC aswell... This is too close to call.
I say AIC but Aaron does Layne proud
I'm inclined to agree with you but I am also a sucker for a decent stripped back acoustic version of something.
I thought this was going to be a blowout for Alice in Chains and I still think they win but very good cover.
I dont remember if we've had this one before... If we have, I got plenty more to play around with π
Chris Isaac - Wicked Game.

Stone Sour - wicked game.

We've definitely touched on these, but who cares they're solid tracks
Alrighty then, let's see if we've had this ;)
Micheal Sembello - Maniac

But this time with power metal π
Avantasia - Manic (2019)

Or Firewind - Maniac (2008) (live)

Or just because some things sound really fun with double bass blast beats here's MyGrain - Maniac (2024)
view on youtu.beI love this song and pretty much all versions of it. It just gets you so pumped.
She is killing it π₯π₯ her vocals kinda remind me a bit of Lzzy Hale.
This is great, although I'm partial to Tenacious D's take on it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLWkl5YpiD0&t=1s
Tenacious D did a fantastic version, I always felt however the emotion Corey Taylor manages to get over in the song is just gut wrenching.
Of the boygeniuses, Lucy Daucus is the one who's clearly the big classic rock fan, and I enjoy her take on The Boss.

Thats a cool cover
She does a great job of this track for sure. But the boss is the boss. I gotta say, if I was the boss and I heard this wonderful woman pay tribute to me like that. I'd be very honoured.
Heard this for the 1st time on UFC300 just now, a week after posting 2 other versions of this https://youtu.be/azeh1ZbxWwI?si=iBl0FbCyCypUGBLM
