This is funny. kr and I were discussing SN's rewards this morning and I asked in one of brainstorming debates:
What if Canada collected 100% tax on all transactions in its economy, determining what all citizens should be paid, and sending them a paycheck every hour?
I think most people would prefer to be self-employed. Our economies are terrible at enabling it though.

i guess we’re about to find out 😂

Is that even reasonable? Every hour...that will be a lot of processing power for no reason. Doont you guys get paid weekly or every two weeks?

It’s a thought experiment.

Self employment has great tax benefits but less benefits and job security. I would like to see anyone who is not employed in the public sector to be able to opt in to be recognized as self employed under the law/tax law.

Canada is starting to kick the tires on “Critical Tax Theory”

brutal numbers, apparently the biggest gains in the government number come from the CRA (Canada’s version of the IRS) and Employment and Social Development Canada (a government division responsible for helping Canadians with employment)

Not likely.
Same thing is happening in the US.

Lol being self employed really is a labour of love, I guess some of this might aslo be how self employed people take a lower salary and push some more expense through their business as well as just earning less in general, would this also include gig workers or people with registered businesses only?
Its funny how politicians will always claim small business is the lifeblood or the bedrock of the economy but you want to erode it like this and destroy the incentives

Public sector might have better benefits, so people are going there. Or more obvious benefits, which dont mean much in the long term? Self employment is not for everyone lol

Immigration being so critical for this country's success and government jobs waiting to be filled. Seems super sus. I wonder about state funded biz also, it would technically fall under private sector.
My wife with an MBA and a good history at a well known ecom company can't get a job anywhere because she has a kid.
Perhaps she should get into the car theft industry. It is booming here in Ontario.
We're praying that rate cuts make a difference here while we wait for our parents to die so we can leave Canada. Sad.

Yes, these are some serious issues. If Canada goes on like this it will nor take so many years that when it will be our of the top 10 economies of the world.

If I were to compare this graph with one of my country, they would surely be almost identical, little self-employment, public work is the only thing to which people aspire, the private sector suffocated by taxes...

This also might be related to the Covid hoax. Right before 2020, it was pretty consistent, but after...maybe people wanted more security? Usually the benefits from the public sector are best, then the private sector. Anyone thinking along the same lines?

You still didn't learn the lesson? Do not engage in discussions with people that still wear a mask for long time? Was affecting their brains from lack of oxygen. The damage is irreversible and will accentuate their cognitive dissonance 100x

wearing a mask & getting jab != falling for "hoax" bullshit
I didn't wear a mask, I didn't get a jab. But covid isn't a "hoax". Cry harder.

Covid was a hoax. It was just a hyped of version of the flu or something close. Look how well the vaccine works, just like the flu vaccine. Lets guess the strain and hope it helps. People will keep taking it lol Oh look, another booster shot. OMG

Some people need to realize that my "opinion" isnt just my own. Other people also think this covid shit was a hoax! Flu with another name. It is getting hard to explain to the maskers though.
