Mock Public_N_M_E
This is the third edition of a series of posts heading into the NFL draft later this month.
Last week you guys mocked @Undisciplined (Raiders) and this week @Public_N_M_E has graciously stepped up to be mocked, so your mission should you choose to accept it is a mock draft of the Minnesota Vikings.
Mock Draft parameters: minimum 5 rounds. You can make one trade if you want but you can't trade any 2025 picks to move up. Positions of need: IOL, IDL, CB, QB, Edge, S, LB, RB, WR
You can use any mock draft simulator you want but I recommend https://www.nflmockdraftdatabase.com/mock-draft-simulator https://www.profootballnetwork.com/mockdraft (you don't need an account to use these- ads are annoying though)
Screenshot your mock in the comments. Best Vikings mock submitted today, as determined by @Public_N_M_E, gets 1000 sats (from me).
Hoping we get a few good ones.
Sats for all, GR
The one-trade rule and the lack of anything in the third round made this interesting. Had to resist the urge for an early trade, and waited a few rounds to stock up, since most of the needs could be met down-draft. And when you get Daniels at 11 without a trade, you take him. https://i.imgur.com/bEVfmz9.png https://i.imgur.com/wvwQHB8.png

That is gunna be real tough to beat. Daniels falling is huge. I dont believe he gets out the top 4. He definitely won't get passed the giants. And I expect the broncos or the raiders to jump over the vikings if he gets to 4/5.
But getting Daniels, Latu (an absolute stud if those medicals work out) and the best lb in the draft with trotter... That's πŸ”₯
Carter and mustapha, where you got them was great value. But it is lacking the iOL that needs addressing (hello free agency!)
Getting Allen aswell was very very helpful.
Great draft, looking forward to seeing the rest of the submissions.
reply
It's clearly better than mine, but I wanted to make sure to get one of the elite QB's.
reply
Thanks. I actually saw some mocks showing the Vikes trading up to 5 to get Daniels, which is probably more likely than my result.
And yeah, just never had a great iOL option at any of my picks (or a better choice than any of the other picks).
reply
I've done so many drafts now (I'm such a draft nerd) I've had the board break on me where I've been able to really pack out the trenches but never fill any other hole and I've had it break where I've been able to get everything but the trenches. But you're draft seems to hit in a lot of ways.
Both you and GR have done great work with what is fundamentally a tough position, yes we've got 2 1sts but then nothing until the 4th. That's a very long wait with a lot of holes to fill.
reply
Daniels is 11?
He will be top 10
reply
Going to be tough to beat the two first round picks you got here. Impressive.
reply
Yeah. Of course, this involved the Jets -- who do not have a viable quarterback for beyond this season -- passing on Daniels (all due respect to Fuaga). Which sadly is on-brand.
reply
This will not happen
I will bet any amount of money

JJ McCarthy went #1 in this draft? Wow AI has a ways to go. I like JJ more than most but there is no way he is going in the top 3.
reply
Yeah that's insane lol. They say AI will replace humans and we'll lose our jobs... But if that's AI... I'm feeling pretty secure about my employment 🀣
reply
Seriously. I wonder if these drafts are informed by the folks playing with them, so if a bunch of people experiment with Daniels dropping or McCarthy going higher than expected, it influences future samples.
reply
I don't think they are that intuitive yet but that would be interesting it they were learning from random fans fooling around.
reply
Or boredom
reply
reply
Holy crap, Penix fell to the end of the second.
reply
Yes, not very realistic.
reply
I wasn't sure how I wanted to evaluate things like that. Obviously, luck is going to play a role in any mock draft, but I didn't want to just reward the luckiest draw. I tried to go more with the approach than the specific picks.
reply
Good game between Heat and 76ers
reply
It's not looking good for the Heat.
How about Batum, though? He's become an awesome role player.
reply
Yeah Butler being limited has really cost them.
reply
This is very very spicy. And fairly realistic. Originally I was very against trading out of 11. When we could get Murphy or Newton there easy... But actually with the return we got. JPJ, Penix, KAD. That's a decent return over 1 pick. McKinley Jackson out of Texas A&M I really like. A tonne of upside, might not be a true blue NT but could for sure be part of a rotational role as a 3T or 5T.
That's a really great draft. Good job.
reply
If I win I will roll the sats into our draft contest.
reply
Is that an attempt at bribery Mr Ruby? 🀣🀣 πŸ˜‰
reply
No no. Hopefully we will get a couple more competitors. Slow day on SN today.
reply
Yeah, I'll have to check back in again 2moro as it's night night time for me now. And I've been so busy I've barely been able to keep up with ~Music daily.
reply
Could have got more value in the trade but would have had to break the rules and receive next years picks so just took the haircut and focused on getting picks in the meat of the draft since you had many positions of need.
Could have likely picked up an additional 2025 3rd or 4th rounder in the trade but I like the way the draft worked out so didn't want to chance it and do another.
reply
Well... You're much more disciplined than me with those rules πŸ˜‰. I'd have grabbed as much as I could milk from them haha!
reply
Trying to set a good example.

reply
I didn't have time today to incorporate your positions of need. I traded the two first round picks so that I could get Daniels.
This was from yesterday.
reply
Bortolini at 177! πŸ”₯
reply
I was pretty happy with who I got in each spot, but the complete lack of day 2 picks meant that Jayden had to be enough to win it.
reply
Yeah I really liked your draft, I think it's probably quite close to reality. Although I think Daniels is locked into the commies at 2. But still stacking managed to get some pieces I absolutely love.
reply
What kind of trading up scenario do you like?
I went to third because that's as high as I could get without trading future picks. I was going to take whichever of Maye or Daniels was still available.
reply
I think, with the reality of the QB tax. I don't actually want to trade up to 2/3. Maybe 4/5. But I think it'll cost more than I'd be willing to pay. 11&23 for 4/5 might be what the trade charts say is fine, but really, those teams are going to squeeze us if we want to come up and I'd rather not part with 3 1s for 1 guy. When we could get someone like Penix at 11 and a bluechip defensive player at 23. I think the needs of the team as a whole is more than just a QB. I'm not averse to trading back. Like GR did in his mock, pulling back and getting a fist full of second and thirds is really an interesting prospect.
reply
I like the trading back approach too, but we’re not quite as QB desperate.
I’ll be really curious to see where Penix goes.
reply
I think he gets reached for. It's that 1st round 5th year option benefit. Plus general QB tax.
I think the Commies are taking Maye.
reply
There's a lot of smoke surrounding Maye. The draft hype/fluff surrounding him reminds me of Levis. Who fell a long way. Maye is sliding down analysts boards for some reason. But it could easily be teams "leaking" fake news to get him to fall.
reply
Peters touched the hot stove drafting Lance when he was with the 49ers. I think this time around he will go for less potential upside and more polished QB. Just my opinion.
reply
Yeah, you make a good point. I can see it for sure. Man I'm so excited for draft night. I think this year is going to see a lot of action.
Man you guys are...not good. And thats coming from a Jets fan
reply
reply
Sadly I can't let you have that one, future picks were involved in the trade and @grayruby has his rules πŸ˜‰

Realistic
reply
Can we do one for the Chargers next edition?
I can be mocked
reply
Absolutely. Next Wednesday we will do the Chargers. Will be great timing with the draft starting the next day.
reply
This would be really exciting.
Outside of drafting Joe alt at 1.05 that's a prime position to trade back from for all those teams jumping up to grab their QB.
Could be alot of fun.
reply
I think... My favourite draft was @StillStackinAfterAllTheseYears
I tried to look at it as "a top qb" at 11 as I don't think Daniels getting there happens, and then the rest of the draft, but lacking a iOL is unfortunate. For me it's a top top priority, I almost see it above the QB. If we can't fix our Oline then it doesn't matter who we draft at QB the kids not going to be able to do anything. So looks like we're going hunting in FA or maybe making a little phone call to perhaps the Seahawks and see how they feel about Oluwatimi for a little something something.
I wasn't really looking for realism (outside of something outrageous) as for.me it's about fun. But also more about the draft process. And the rest of the holes that were filled with players like trotter Allen carter Latu etc are some great picks.
Managing that with only a little step up in the 5th. Very good limited pick management.
Thank you to all who took part it was great seeing these. Remember to check out the pinned post here #473247 and maybe come play some fantasy with us this upcoming season πŸ˜‰
Cheers all Pub. πŸ‘Š
reply
Woohoo! Thanks (even though I know I got lucky)!
reply
I think if the name at that spot was McCarthy, people wouldn't have seen it as unrealistic. So I kinda looked at it as. A top 4QB got to 11 and you took it, which is well within the confines of what I can see happening on draft night.
reply
Ok, StillStackin takes it home this week.
