I agree, but that doesn't mean it's a scam at the individual level.
I think it is more the idea that they want to buy into.
Not the actual results.
That's often the case, but there are plenty of scenarios where rooftop solar has a positive ROI.
You have to remember though, it isnt just the rooftop solar panels though.
You need everything else to maintain it.
Wires, batteries, inverters, water....many of these things arent very green.
The guy who made the video documents all of his solar costs and earnings very transparently in several other videos.
Whether or not these technologies actually have worse ecological impacts doesn't change whether they might make financial sense for a particular person.
By and large, I think there is a strong case that environmentalists should avoid these technologies, for the reasons you gave.
Even worse are the large windmill farms.
I was watching a documentary, none of the fan blades are recyclable.
Its a real shame.
And they leak oil like crazy.
But I have heard they are making waves with hydropower.
Ones that bob up and down by waves.
I think if they need subsidies, that shows how inefficient they actually are.
